Hulu has canceled CASTLE ROCK.

The anthology series, set in the iconic Stephen King town and incorporating characters from the King universe, ran for two seasons on the streaming service. Season 1 starred André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy, and Scott Glenn, while season 2 was led by Lizzy Caplan, Tim Robbins, Paul Sparks, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, Elsie Fisher, and Matthew Alan. The series was co-created by Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw.

Season 2 concluded in December of 2019. At the time, Thomason offered a small tease about what he hoped to tell in the third season: “I can tell you that the soft anthology that is CASTLE ROCK will continue and the mythology will continue to grow. But I do think that there’s a real opportunity to explore far flung places in connection that still have a grounding to the town.”

The series had also teased a potential story diving deeper into “The Shining,” with Jackie (Jane Levy), the niece of Jack Torrance, going to The Overlook in the end tag of season 1. “There was so much—and I understand why—reaction last season to the idea that we were obviously going right to The Overlook,” Thomason said in 2019. “And I was smiling to myself a little bit during that period, because I knew that it was going to have to be a longer term relationship if people wanted to see that.” (Levy, for her part, told Give Me My Remote she would love to return to CASTLE ROCK if they could coordinate timing with ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST.)

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the cancellation.
