TRANSPLANT wraps up its first season run on NBC on Tuesday, December 8, with a two-hour block as the doctors are tested in new and highly personal ways. (The show, a CTV original, has been renewed for a second season, but its future on NBC is still TBA.)

In the first hour, “Relapse,” June (Ayisha Issa) has to grapple with a sick family member coming to the hospital, which causes tension in her relationship with her boyfriend, Lou (Eddie G).

“June is a strong character, so Lou doesn’t worry as much about her, because he knows that she can go through basically anything,” G explains. “He has a lot of faith in her. But June has gone through different obstacles before and after, so Lou knows that she’s going to go through this, no matter what.”

For G, he’s been enjoying the show’s second life on NBC. “It’s really fun to see it happen again,” he says. “And it’s nice to see the same fan reaction from the Americans as we got from the Canadians. So it seems like it’s something that’s going to be accepted and loved worldwide.”

“What I really liked about the show [when I read the script] was the diversity that it had,” he continues. “The fact that the lead was brown colored, that already piqued my interest, because you know it’s not every day that you see that on a medical drama. And the fact that the whole show was about diversity and spoke on racism, the whole content of the show, really, piqued my interest.”

Between the medical professionals, the people in their lives, and the patents that come in, “the thing I love about this show is there’s a genuine relatable story that anyone can connect to,” G notes.

But despite TRANSPLANT’s premise, G did have an unusual perk: being a regular on a medical show and not having to memorize the difficult technical jargon. “When I started seeing them speak that way, I was relieved, but also impressed,” he says with a laugh. “I was impressed that these guys were able to deliver these long words so fast. And I was feeling grateful that I didn’t have to do that.”
