THE MIGHTY DUCKS: Will Joshua Jackson Appear in the New Disney+ Series?

When THE MIGHTY DUCKS: GAME CHANGERS debuts on Disney+, it’ll have Emilio Estevez reprising his role of Coach Gordon Bombay from the franchise. But what about the star player on the team, Charlie Conway, played by Joshua Jackson—or any of the other familiar faces?

“We’ve talked to Josh over the years in developing this,” executive producer Steve Brill said during the show’s TCA panel. “He’s part of the family and part of the group. Him and everyone else, where and when they show up is an open, exciting question.”

Though they were coy, the history of the franchise, which spawned three films, an animated series, and led to the creation of a real NHL team, is important to the storytellers.

“We talked about it, we have executed certain elements of that question [into season 1]…we’re not ignoring the past or people in the past,” Brill, who penned the films, said.

As for the Disney+ series, the Ducks are now a super team, and Bombay—now a recluse—has to lead a new group of scrappy youngsters to hockey glory.

“He’s hiding out,” Estevez said. “He’s completely disengaged from the world, which is very much unlike the Bombay we last saw in D3. For me, it was a shift, because if you look at the franchise, my character was very engaged with the kids and the coach we all wished we had…over the course of the show, he comes out of his shell…it was an adjustment to play a guy that was hiding out, but I think it works. I think we get a whole arc for this character throughout the ten episodes.”
