THE MIGHTY DUCKS franchise is back, with the charming new Disney+ series THE MIGHTY DUCKS: GAME CHANGERS…but these aren’t exactly the rag-tag group of lovable misfits.

In the new series, the current Mighty Ducks team is a dynasty, the best of the best. (The off-screen history is impressive, too, as there MD universe has spawned three films, an animated series, and led to the creation of a real NHL team.) That prestige, however, is leaving the people who love the game, but may not yet have the skills or resources to be top-tier, behind.

So when Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is cut from the Ducks, his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), has a plan to create their own team, where the kids can play for the right reasons. (However they will get some–reluctant—help from a former Mighty Ducks key player, as Emilio Estevez’ Gordon Bombay owns an ice rink that could be a big help for the new squad.)

For Evan, it’s a bit of an adjustment to have his mom as his new coach. “I think he’s a little unsure at first, because he’s not aware of her capabilities as a coach,” Noon says in the video below. “They’re already a tight knit duo so he trusts her instincts…[it’s a] little rocky at first, but gradually gets better.”
