THE SIMPSONS, AMERICAN IDOL, and THE GREAT NORTH

THE SIMPSONS: When Homer and Marge are lost in an icy wilderness, they must push themselves to their limits to survive in the “Pixelated and Afraid” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Feb. 27 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. THE SIMPSONS © 2022 by 20th Television.

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE SIMPSONS: The show has spent countless episodes over the more than three decades on the air devoted to Marge and Homer’s love, but this was in the absolute top tier. It’s rare enough for a single story to take up so much of the storyline, certainly. But there have also been times, especially in recent years, where it felt like it wasn’t as clear why Marge and Homer were still together; yes, there was love, but sometimes it felt like certainly he made her miserable. This? Was pure love. Even with the near-death experiences. It was lovely and charming and clever and one of my new favorite episodes.

And that final shot of Homer and Marge watching the sunset, as he fed them chips? One of the sweetest moments in the show’s history.

AMERICAN IDOL:  A number of great standouts in night 1. Taylor Fagins’ song was so powerful. Delaney Renee has a gorgeous voice. While I actually really appreciate that the Platinum Ticket is given out (seemingly) after all the auditions have taken place in that city—which makes sense and is fair to guarantee the best audition actually gets it rather than whomever most enamors the judges in the room; they don’t know who is coming in next and could be better than the person in front of them—it was also a bit clumsy how it was presented in the premiere episode. I’m not sure if it’s because Luke has the bar so they could make that moment or what. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it next time.

THE GREAT NORTH: Pot-holder-geist!!! Oh my God, I laughed.

Beef trying to fit in with the moms went about as well as expected, and Moon trying to be “fun” was also great…maybe they’re not the ideal levels of entertaining, but they sure as hell were needed and helpful.
