MASTERCHEF JUNIOR and GREY'S ANATOMY

GREY’S ANATOMY – “Out for Blood” – Due to a blood shortage, Grey Sloan Memorial is setting up a voluntary donation center. Meanwhile, Nick asks Meredith for help with his patient and Winston is hung up on his relationship with his brother, in the first hour of the season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” THURSDAY, MAY 26 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/Liliane Lathan)
SANDY MARTIN, ELLEN POMPEO

Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

MASTERCHEF JUNIOR: Yikes, it was difficult seeing the red team fumble as much as they did. After watching A’dan refuse to be a cooperative group player for weeks, it was just as frustrating to fall into the same patterns. And with a smaller group, it was extra apparent. Even though the team lost, I’m glad his teammates weren’t penalized for his repeated behavior.

GREY’S ANATOMY: Well, I cried. A lot. The combination of the flashbacks with the covers of the songs so intrinsically tied to the series made me an absolute mess.

The finale is the rare episode this season that ended with A) a cliffhanger and B) genuine questions about who the heck will return/what the show will look like next season. Teddy, Owen, Richard, and Bailey all bolted, and while I’m sure they won’t all be gone, there are real cases for them not to return.

But, also, how are Teddy and Owen running away??? They have young kids! They have a life! How is this going to work?

I am frustrated by Amelia and Kai’s reunion, though. If they disagreed about location, something genuinely fixable, it would be so lovely they’re back together. You can’t compromise on kids, especially a kid that already exists. It feels like sticking your head in the sand on a very, very serious issue.

(Speaking of serious issues, I’m glad GREY’S highlighted the ridiculous discriminatory practice of rejecting blood donation attempts from gay men who are sexually active. In this day and age, with testing available that all blood should be going through…ridiculous.)

I’m really glad Simon got to meet his son, though. Kristen did everything she could to get them the moment…I wish someone had been able to take a photo or video for her, but I hope she can have peace knowing Simon got to say “hello forever” to their baby.

And, hey, Jackson and April are back together! It was pretty clear it was leading that direction, but good for them.

I’m so sad for Meredith; I don’t think she went into the surgery for the wrong reasons, but everything fell apart in every conceivable way. As Bailey said, you broke it, you bought it. Meredith can’t leave now—though I’m curious if Nick will listen to her and leave–but she has virtually no staff to work with, no program, and no real obvious path forward. She’s in the middle of the ocean, with no sign of help/guidance. Where does she go from here?
