BIG BROTHER, THE CHALLENGE USA, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: TOP 6 TO 4: L-R: Contestant Ralyn and All-Star Comfort Fedoke dance a Hip-Hop routine on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airing Wednesday, July 20 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2022 Fox Media LLC. CR: Michael Becker/FOX

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

BIG BROTHER: (Anyone else think of FRIENDS’ Joey and Ross napping together with that Pooch and Joseph montage?)

It feels like a lot of the players are (almost) making pretty dumb and impulsive moves. If you’re already blindsiding Pooch with his ouster, why also add Joseph to the mix? Yes, it would guarantee one would go—and in that case you could have gotten Joseph out—but it would have only served to infuriate Pooch. At least this way, it’s early enough that people can try and sway Joseph over to their side…blindsiding him and Pooch would have just figuratively set things on fire very, very early with little payoff.

Michael winning two vetoes in a row does seem to make him a player to keep an eye on, though…

MASTERCHEF: Wow, I was shocked Shayne was the one they voted to send home. The way they talked about Bri’s dish, I figured she was a slam-dunk exit.

THE CHALLENGE USA: Domenick freaking out Cashay dared talk about her ex was so gross. Her ex…is five feet away, it’s relevant to the game. She wasn’t talking about him while competing, and it’s not like Dom was doing anything essential to training. Come on.

But, also, CASHAY DESERVES EVERY PENNY OF THE FINAL BIT OF MONEY FOR WINNING THAT CHALLENGE. Dom almost blew it all by not covering the drain. If he makes it far…he can thank her for saving both of their butts.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Okay, I’ll start with the good, because I think this episode was better than a number we’ve seen so far: I loved “The Chain” opening; Carter, Beau, and Ralyn were my standouts for the night.

But I also think, while I love him, tWitch wasn’t correct about why people keep ending up in the bottom—this isn’t the dancers not connecting with an audience at large, this is them not connecting with a couple of hundred people who can be in LA at the time of filming. If good dancers keep getting in the bottom, maybe look at how the show is doing things and don’t place the blame squarely on the dancers. (And to be blunt, this is the problem with in-studio audience voting as a whole; we’ve seen the wrong people frequently go home on THE MASKED SINGER because you’re entirely dependent on a very, very small group of people—and that’s not even accounting for the familiarity of the audience with the show, when some/many might be there just to experience a live show taping.)

I’m glad no one went home, but I desperately hope the fans get to vote at some point during the season. Right now, it feels like the show would almost be better served if the judges were the one making the decisions; at least then we’d know they really knew the dancers and what they were capable of.
