Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

CHICAGO MED: Crockett essentially short-circuiting when the OR 2.0 couldn’t help him was chilling, but also a good point. You need to practice your skills to keep them fresh, and if the doctors get too reliant on machines knowing what’s best, when push comes to shove, they won’t be as quickly/easily able to make the right call. I know this is just a fictional situation, but I’m glad Crockett realized he needed to turn off the figurative GPS in the future just to navigate things on his own.

But, ugh, man, the possible organ transplant recipient was heartbreaking, as was the addict Hannah was trying to help. (I can’t believe a severed hand was the least depressing medical case of the week.)

Uh, yeah, the Charles situation is going to devolve into a mess, either personally or professionally. Already he’s gotten himself into a bind…when that article comes out, it’s clearly going to lead to a breakdown in the negotiating. (Of course the cleaning staff deserves more money.)

THE MASKED SINGER: Was this a MASKED SINGER record with both contestants being correctly guessed? Hello to Howie (who is having a big week—I’m kind of surprised he could do this while AGT is airing) and Debbie. (Also, what’s it going to take for them to actually save someone? I thought Debbie might be a contender for it, frankly.

CHICAGO FIRE: Wow to Ritter!!! Absolutely BS he was threatened, but he handled it well. (Also, a local politician just assuming everyone knew who he was? The ego, man.)

I deeply love Trudy being on FIRE, and what a lovely joy it was having her for a legitimate storyline. She and Mouch remain one of ONE CHICAGO’s best couples. And what a nice happy balance to the bittersweet, beautiful reveal that Herrmann was talking to everyone just to gather stories to tell Cindy when he got home. (My heart hurts.)

I expected Violet and Gallo to give it another go, at some point, and I’m curious how this shakes out. She will need to be the one to take the step given her loss—and their history—but it’ll be interesting if it happens soon or if she makes an attempt, he still pushes her to wait a bit longer until she’s had more time to grieve.

Obviously, there’s only so much that can be controlled, but that final Stellaride scene sure was something.

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS: Maggie’s breakdown broke me, a little. I felt awful for her, and, yes, it happening while being trapped in the escape room was on the nose, but still. (I’m glad Gary got to tell off his therapist, because oooooh boy, it’s a conflict of interest. Yeah, she didn’t take privileged information, but it’s still sketchy as hell.)

CHICAGO P.D.: First and foremost: Marina Squerciati and Patrick John Flueger. Oh my God. Their acting together when Kim was in the midst of her panic attacks was absolutely gorgeous and gutting. And Squerciati, as Kim tried to do her job while being so emotionally raw post-therapy and then immediately being thrust into a new trauma? Absolutely stunning work.

And, yes, this episode was hard on Burgess. It’s hard to see a character you love have trauma upon trauma inflicted on them. But, for me, I think the episode handled the delicate line they were walking incredibly well. If you’re going to focus a milestone installment on a character/couple—especially when you’re an ensemble show—there needs to be a good reason. If more trauma is going to be inflicted when a character is already vulnerable, wounded, and hurting…again, it feels like there needs to be a reason beyond “SHE IS SUPERWOMAN, SHE CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING!!!!!”

Frankly, CHICAGO P.D. did that. There is strength in acknowledging you’re not okay and that you need help. Kim Burgess did that. Rather than this ordeal just being something she grimly survived and trying to bury it, she acknowledged she’s not okay. And she wants to be. For herself. For her daughter. For Adam. And I’m extremely grateful that CHICAGO P.D. took an important episode (yay 200!!) and used it to showcase the decision to actually heal.

I can’t wait to see Kim’s journey going forward.
