Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: I’m generally against contestants taking on Whitney, Mariah, or Celine (and there were several performances that were…okay…between THE VOICE and IDOL last night), but wow was Cait Martin’s cover of Whitney’s “All The Man That I Need” was great. And I’m a sucker for a good cover of “Iris,” so I’m really glad Kala Banham was stolen.

AMERICAN IDOL: This was a rough night. Last night felt a lot more event, but this felt like we had a lot more mediocre performances. But my highlights were Wé Ani and…well, Wé. There are people I’ll be happy to see move on, but it was a weird night.

THAT’S MY JAM: A genuinely fun episode! And I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a contestant guess a song their teammate was trying to clue them in on…but the teammate was using the wrong song? (I was with Simu Liu—I was confused when his “Thinking Out Loud” wasn’t accepted…until it was clear the actual clue Halle Bailey was supposed to be singing was “Shape of You.” I laughed.)

The Bailey sisters were wildly charming. And I’ve loved Adam Lambert since his pre-IDOL days—I actually saw him understudy in WICKED—so the more of him on my TV, the better.
