BIG BROTHER, PRESS YOUR LUCK, and HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET

PRESS YOUR LUCK – “The New Legend” – Contestants press their luck as they avoid the WHAMMY and hope they hit the bucks as Host Elizabeth Banks keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. THURSDAY, AUG. 29 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Casey Durkin)
ANITA, ELIZABETH BANKS

Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

BIG BROTHER: Well, now it feels like the games have really begun. Who are these people as players without Tucker as a shield or target? At least they finally started playing for them versus playing his game.

It remains crazy though that Tucker was sincere in trying to protect Angela—and she was wrong about her instincts that he was playing her, but she was right they had to get him out now. It feels like most alliances have been blown up, again, so where will the loyalty stand now? (It feels like, at best, we have a couple of duos loyal to each other and that’s it.)

PRESS YOUR LUCK: Okay, it’s absolutely iconic to intentionally name your own episode while you’re in the middle of a crazy win streak. Well done to Anita—both because she won $431k, is clearly a superfan, and she knew well enough to walk away. I get the temptation when you’re that close to the million dollars (less than $70k to double the bank and win it all), but a single whammy would have destroyed everything. It was too big of a risk with life-changing money. (I will be laughing for weeks about that Timberlake painting, though,)

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET:

“Nearer My God to Thee”: Sometimes, TV writers get notes that make no sense for their show; it’s a demand to follow a trend or what executives think might improve a show. Gee, based on the first scene of the episode—and then some of the content after—I wonder what note the HOMICIDE writers got!!! (Presumably; I’m trying to avoid any interviews/spoilers until after I watch. But…it was not exactly a subtle opening sequence.)

Munch and his old bar—and then his quest to recruit current coworkers into a new endeavor—was an ongoing thing on SVU, but it’s funny to see it come into play in a real way here. (Also, he was shockingly spot-on about the future of cable and our interaction/relationship with digital content. We really don’t have to leave our seats at home to do almost everything.)

I’m cautious about the introduction of Megan, though, which is a bummer. I was at first happy to have another woman around and what that relationship with Kay looked like. But, based on the end (and, uh, again, the not-subtle opening scene), I’m a little worried about how they’re going to play Megan’s relationship with Beau. Hopefully I’ll be surprised.

(I know why he couldn’t, but, yeah, Frank deserved to punch the racist cop just a little bit.)
