GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE: Steve Holland on Georgie and Mandy’s Marriage Troubles

GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE’s title couple has already had a rocky path during their still-new coupledom—and in the Thursday, February 6 episode, “A Tire Convention and the Moral High Ground,” Mandy (Emily Osment) is worried about the state of her marriage to Georgie (Montana Jordan).

“I think one of the fun things about this show for us was this main couple who love each other but are not coming into this marriage in the best of circumstances,” GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE executive producer Steve Holland told reporters on the show’s set. “They barely knew each other. They got pregnant and had a baby right away…they did a lot of things wrong. “

“So it was never going to be an easy road for them,” he continued. “And that’s great for us because we hope to be on for a long time and we need stories. And knowing that, like it doesn’t have to go well for them the whole time, there’s going to be some problems. And I think the first marriage in the title is just a fun sort of wink to that fact.” 

While viewers of the larger THE BIG BANG THEORY universe might know serious trouble is ahead for the young couple, GEORGIE & MANDY is paying homage to its YOUNG SHELDON roots in an upcoming episode.

“We’ve got Lance Barber…returning as George Sr. in an episode coming up, which we’re really excited about,” Holland previewed. “And it was so much fun to have him back on the set, especially after killing him off on YOUNG SHELDON. That was our apology.” 

In the episode, “Georgie is thinking about his dad, and he’s sort of worried that his dad might be disappointed in him,” Holland teased. “And so his dad visits him in a dream. And it sort of came out of a conversation we’d had with [executive producer] Chuck [Lorre] even early on talking about the show. And Chuck had said about his own father that he still dreams about him, that he still visits him. And so that was the thing we had sort of thought about. And then when we were breaking this episode, it just seemed like a great opportunity to bring George back.”
