Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
THE MASKED SINGER: I loved seeing Ernie Hudson, as well as Mckenna Grace, but it’s odd to have these theme weeks when it’s more about the set and the judges versus the songs. I wish if they were going to do these elaborate themes they went all in with the song choices or not bother at all.
(And, yeah, I’m bummed Flavor Flav was voted out.)
WILD CARDS: Oh, all of the tropes!!! (I mean this with the highest of praises.) Haunted house? Yes, please. Accidentally drugged by a stolen treat? Haha. Trapped at the location because of forces outside of your control? Check. I loved it all so much.
And as delightful as Max and Ellis’ drugged moment was—and it was—him opening up to her about Daniel and his grief was the real episode highlight for me. It says so much about Daniel and Ellis, both as individuals and as brothers, that Ellis was able to recontextualize crickets for him. And then Ellis hearing a cricket after Daniel’s death? Ow, my heart. (Okay, Ellis weeping over his cat also made me laugh out loud. That drugged experience was a roller coaster.)
THE FLOOR: I would have done so well with the Hollywood stars category. But, man, the appliances round frustrated me given how easy it would be to guess the wrong thing. (Like, sure, the rice cooker made sense, but I could see why it would be mistaken for a pressure cooker.) Also, shouldn’t “mill” be enough for an answer given how many half-answers people are giving?!
Speaking of gaming the system, Steven was smart by only doing last names which was keeping him ahead in time until he had to pass. He won by a lot, but if it had been close, I would have been so annoyed if I was the one competing against him.
The category I would have been maybe the worst at was the HOUSEWIVES. Some I knew from general pop culture knowledge, but, wow, impressed by Ira and Alex battling it out. And I’m shocked Ira lost, even with Alex getting that time boost.
Brian seems so freaking appreciative of the life-changing money he’s gotten on this show. No matter what, winning $100,000—especially without playing a single round this episode—is impressive.
(Also, how do you pass on a planet? Start naming them all!!)
