AMERICAN IDOL: Filo Auditions with ‘Try a Little Tenderness’—and the Judges Have a Surprise for Him

Filo made a big impression during his AMERICAN IDOL audition on Sunday, March 16.

The singer instantly blew judges—Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood—away with his chill-inducing take on Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness.” (Filo also had the support of his family who listened to his audition from outside the room, with his mother, Heidi, weeping as she heard her son sing.)

“We’ve been waiting for you,” Richie said after Filo’s audition. “What took you so long to get here?”

Filo quickly got a Golden Ticket to Hollywood…but the judges had another surprise in store after his audition.

AMERICAN IDOL brought the singer to NEW YEAR’S ROCKIN’ EVE, where host Ryan Seacrest and Underwood presented Filo with a Platinum Ticket. (It aired, live, as part of the ROCKIN’ EVE telecast last year.)

“‘I’m speechless’ is an understatement,” Filo said after he filmed the segment. “I’m beyond grateful.”
