THE ROOKIE: Lisseth Chavez Previews ‘Chaos Agent’ and Celina’s Unexpected New Boyfriend

As it turns out, “Arrest me, but make it sexy” really was a good pickup line/song lyric to win over THE ROOKIE’s Celina (Lisseth Chavez)—the Tuesday, March 18 episode of the ABC drama reveals the cop is now dating Rodge (Zander Hawley), the singer behind the ridiculously catchy “Daddy Cop.” (Though Nathan Fillion’s Nolan was the main inspiration for the song, Celina was his partner…and, well, as Rodge sang, “She puts the short in shorty.”)

“Oh my God, I think it’s so funny how she fell for Nolan’s garage band nemesis,” Chavez tells Give Me My Remote with a laugh in the video below. “Just the whole story itself is so funny. It just sort of adds the drama, the tension, the humor….Rodge is this talented guy, he’s quirky, he’s cute. And I think Celina…I’m trying to imagine how that happened, but I think she fell in love with the voice first, I’m assuming, and [the] really catchy song. I’m assuming he sang to her, and she just was head over heels.” 

Though Nolan has been very, very annoyed by Rodge’s music, Celina invites him to see Rodge’s band play in “Chaos Agent.” 

“It is funny having to introduce John Nolan to Rodge as my boyfriend,” Chavez previews. “But working with Zander Hawley was awesome. He is this extremely talented musician. And it was fun and refreshing, working with someone [where] this is actually his biggest TV role. So it was nice. Also working with him off-screen, we rehearsed [for] hours via Zoom before we shot it in person, which is different. Normally, we do [rehearsal] minutes before we shoot. So it was nice being able to go over the material in detail, just so he felt confident and we felt good about it. So I’m excited about how he brought Rodge to life.”

As Celina is juggling her new romance, technical difficulties at the station cause widespread mayhem.

“There is so much going on,” Chavez previews. “Everything shuts down…the computers are down, lights are down. There’s a raccoon in the station. We’re overpopulated in the cells….And I’m also trying to solve a case for my boyfriend because his studio got vandalized. There’s a lot where I’m just being pulled in different directions. Even shooting that whole episode was fun.”

“And we got to work with Tasha Smith, who is an amazing director,” she continues. “She’s an actor-director, which is my personal favorite to work with.  But, yeah, we had a lot of people for that episode, and I think she handled it beautifully.”
