Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
ST. DENIS MEDICAL: Oh, this was a very Marisa-geared episode, so naturally I was charmed—and I am absolutely Dr. Ron when it comes to sports games. And I laughed at Joyce trying to impress a reporter. And poor Matt had a terrible day…Serena has leverage over him and was charmed by their patient.
DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND: This was maybe one of the most stressful finales of a reality TV show I’ve ever watched.
First of all, I’m shocked Phillip was authentic with David, and that was what allowed him to win. Good for Phillip. And, look, I get needing show PR, but it’s also fascinating and funny the show itself makes it such a big surprise and mysterious reveal within the episode of who the banker is.
David, meanwhile, may have aged all of us like a decade. By the time Chrissy ended up on the floor as he was opening cases, I did not blame her at all…I would have been doing the same. (And the other contestants holding on to each other was very sweet.) I cannot believe the chutzpah David had to keep rejecting those multi-million dollar offers. I would have bowed out a round or two before he did—it was still life-changing money! But thank God he took that final offer. Can you imagine if he went home with $75?
THE ROOKIE: I love it when the show does unconventional episodes like this and we get tweaks on the format. The bodycam, bus cam, shopcam, etc., being the primary way we saw things upped the tension. I do wish there had been a bit more with Celina in the bus—and that it had stayed just Nolan and Celina in there, no matter how insane/badass the Bailey jump was—but I appreciated the creative swing they took overall.
And, oh boy, Monica. We knew she’d be coming back, but I’ll admit I didn’t see it coming here. Worried about the mayhem she’ll surely be causing.
I think I might be in the minority on this, but I appreciate the steps that Lucy and Tim are taking on the way to their reunion. The breakup was a huge blindside to her, and she should be wary and careful about when/how they reunite. They love each other! That’s not in doubt. And they’re not looking elsewhere. But she’s also establishing herself in her career, he’s working on himself, and they’re inching back closer. I’m hopeful about their path for the rest of the season.
(Poor Miles.)
THE IRRATIONAL: Oh, my heart. This was an unexpectedly sweet ending to the season (minus the stalking), and I was actually shocked it didn’t end with Rose taking her old job back. But I’m so happy for her and Alec. (Yes, I’m happy for fictional characters.) They are so sweet and supportive and I love the relationship they’re building with each other and also the people in their lives.
With the uncertainty about the show’s future, I also appreciate that there was a cliffhanger, but only a tiny one. I deeply, deeply, deeply hope we get more—this show is delightful—but it was a kind way to end the series if this ends up being the end.
