About Last Night…THE VOICE and AMERICAN IDOL

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Okay, “Harder to Breathe” is a very hard song to sing, especially on a show like this; Divighn absolutely could have made it through.

I was actually surprised Britton versus Ari wasn’t a cliffhanger since it was clear there was going to be a steal. But John stealing her back could make things interesting going forward.

Not related to the competition, but Kelsea is crazy good at doing the impression of Paulette from LEGALLY BLONDE. A silly, goofy moment that made me laugh.

AMERICAN IDOL: The “Head to Head” competition being similar to THE VOICE’s Battles was interesting and also kind of sucks. On the one hand, in this case, both people can stay. On the other, it’s just harder to make it work at a time when you’re cutting half of the competing singers/there’s a hard line; a duet can so easily fall apart if one person goes off the rails.

And, man, putting people in the top 24 as you go is kind of wild because what if you cut someone you shouldn’t have?

That being said…I think I’m actually really happy with this Top 24. Kolbi and Filo, especially, bounced back. There were some great performances and it feels like we have a really solid group here.
