[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Tuesday, April 8 episode of FBI.]

An investigation into the death of a rapper became significantly more complicated on the Tuesday, April 8 episode of FBI—and Isobel (Alana De La Garza) realized it had ties to a crime boss she dealt with earlier in her career.

During their first encounter, Jack shot his way out of a tricky situation, killing two agents—including one of Isobel’s Quantico instructors. This go-round, Isobel thought they had a way to get him: His daughter, Billie, was cooperating and agreed to wear a recording device—hidden in a necklace—to get intel from her brother, Sonny, about their father and his criminal activity.

But when Sonny got suspicious about the new jewelry, he lunged for it…and after a scuffle, wound up dead. The agents convinced Billie to give up her father’s location, to make it so the loss of her brother wasn’t in vain, and she told them where her dad was hiding.

When they caught up with Jack, however, he revealed they had been duped: Yes, Billie brought the agents to him, but she manipulated the situation. Isobel had come to the same realization, too, as it became clear Billie set up an alliance with another family and took her family out of play to consolidate power. Now, Billie was out there, dangerous, and up to potentially anything.

The timing was especially poignant for Isobel, who had reached her 20th year with the FBI, which would allow her to retire with full benefits. When she got home that night, she told Phillip (Tom Cavanagh) she wasn’t ready to hang things up yet.

“You decide when your part in the work is finished,” Phillip said.

“I’m not finished,” she said. “Not yet.”

With Philip backing her play—and Billie still out there—“You will definitely get to see a glimpse into their relationship when the stakes of the case rise,” De La Garza tells Give Me My Remote via email. “You can feel the pressure that Isobel has and her vulnerability is exposed. Her family, Phillip, and the girls are her heart.”

Isobel also had a moment earlier in the hour where she started to talk with Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) about her career and the other agent sussed out she might be thinking about quitting.

“Jeremy is a wonderful actor and a very good friend in real life,” De La Garza says. “So our scenes always feel easy. He is supportive and I know I can always trust him to be there emotionally and respond to me as Jubal would. I think Isobel and Jubal have a strong friendship, as well.”

“That’s always a fun dynamic to play,” she continues. “The fact that they support each other so much, but she’s also his boss.”

But will the Billie storyline continue this year? (The series is in the first season of a three-year renewal.) “FBI has always been a thrill ride for the viewers,” De La Garza teases. “We are always chasing the bad guy and saving as many lives as we can. Protecting the people is what we thrive to do. Thanks to our incredible writers we are almost always successful…I think this storyline will be back and we want the audience to cheer us on through every bump and bruise.”
