Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Oh, I’m happy for Kelsea, who was so excited to finally steal Darius J. I also love that Jaydn Cree is still around; Bublé has been so firm that she really could go far and he’s stood by that notion so far.

AMERICAN IDOL: I realized I forgot to talk about IDOL in yesterday’s ALN, so I’ll say it felt like a lot of what was working live for the judges didn’t translate on television. (That sounds insane, but as someone who used to cover a lot of these shows live, you’d be shocked by how often the audio could sound entirely different in the room compared to what actually aired on television.) Breanna Nix and Jamal Roberts were the highlights for me.

As for Monday’s episode, what stood out to me the most was how incredible Jelly Roll is as their mentor. He was so enthusiastically supportive and helpful; he is the best addition the show has made in years.

The performances were largely fine, with Josh standing out as the highlight of the night.

FOUND: I really love how the show is handling Jamie’s grief and confusion over his kidnapping. His entire life was upended as a child, he was brainwashed, but he’s trying to find a way to connect with his mom again. We’ve obviously spent so much time with characters who were kidnapped, but this is different: We experienced Gabi and Lacey’s kidnapping experiences via flashbacks, but we knew where they ended up in the present. Jamie is just at the start of his recovery process.

The case was so good and so tragic. I obviously want happy endings, but this was really well done.

Well…Sir working with the FBI is alarming. (But also very interesting for potential storytelling.)
