FBI, FBI: INTERNATIONAL, THE ROOKIE

THE ROOKIE – “Mutiny And The Bounty” – The team helps Skip Tracer Randy when his new love interest is kidnapped. Meanwhile, Angela and Nyla enlist their moms to help catch a con artist, and Wesley is threatened to drop a case. TUESDAY, MAY 6 (9:00-10:01 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Mike Taing)
ERIC WINTER, ENRIQUE KIKÉ HERNÁNDEZ

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

FBI: Hey, Robin Lord Taylor! He was great in the episode. And AI remains absolutely terrifying. Sigh.

I do wish this had been slotted somewhere else in the season, though. We just had Maggie and OA nearly die in the previous episode (which, as weird as this sounds—because do not hurt them, writers, I beg—was great)…and now we repeated that beat again here. (Complete with Maggie needing CPR to actually be revived.) There were incredible emotional beats here (everything with OA, Scola’s panic when he saw the situation, the basically helpless and stressed reaction from everyone in the JOC; even the end with the burgers), but it loses a bit when you just played a similar card in the literal episode before. (Also, uh, Maggie and Joel broke up? After everything had been fine? Sigh.)

FBI: INTERNATIONAL: As we inch closer to the series finale, every single beat feels like it carries more weight. So, uh, how exactly is this mess with Wes’ bio dad going to blow up for him (and potentially the whole team) in the final episodes?

THE ROOKIE: Lucy did it!!! It felt pretty inevitable—both for her own sake and for Chenford—but I’m still so relieved and happy for her. Melissa O’Neil was so fantastic at portraying Lucy’s nerves about the results showing up, but then not being able to look. And even when she probably knew she was safe (since Tim told her to look), it was gorgeous how O’Neil portrayed Lucy’s caution and then relief. It was such a lovely scene.

I absolutely loved Angela and Nyla’s moms being besties and also seeing that foursome work together to help Nyla’s mother. I so hope we get to dig into that more next season.

I’m curious how Sean stepping back will impact Wesley, too. It was a stressful as hell subplot (certainly this show has not been shy about killing off people, and Sean or any member of his family could have easily been taken out), but it feels like there’s a lot to mine there going forward.

As soon as Chasity offered to be Skip Tracer Randy’s sugar baby I was worried she and Peter (or maybe just Peter) would pull something to try and just get a large amount of money from him ASAP. As terrible as it was for Chasity—who was a badass and saved herself—I’m glad it was an outside offender. And Skip Tracer Randy warning people before he fought them how skilled he was (and then apologizing for how thoroughly he beat them) was very funny.

It’s also wild how sweet Celina and Rodge have turned out to be. It started off super silly! But it’s lovely that she made the attempt to write him a song for his birthday.

(As a Dodgers fan, of course I freaking loved the Kiké Hernández cameo. And Tim and Grey being so nerdy delighted by him, too, was hilarious.)

[For more on the episode, here’s what showrunner Alexi Hawley shared.]

FBI: MOST WANTED: Well, that was a tragic end to the case. It’s always unnerving to see our team unnerved by an end, too, but they clearly were when they had to take out two people. (Including one being used as a freaking human shield.)
