GRIMSBURG: Brilliant, eccentric (and burned out) Detective Marvin Flute returns home to Grimsburg to solve a crime that has the whole strange town caught in its web. Even more baffling to Flute is how to prove himself to his ex-wife Harmony and his beloved sonÖSam? No–Stan! His name is definitely Stan in the “Pilot” episode of GRIMSBURG debuting with a special preview Sunday, Jan 7 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/5:00-5:30 PM PT; live to all time zones) on FOX. Fox has handed out renewals to three of its animated shows on the bubble: GRIMSBURG, KRAPOPOLIS, and UNIVERSAL BASIC GUYS.
GRIMSBURG’s renewal is for its third season. According to Fox, “Grimsburg centers on “Marvin Flute” (Jon Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son. In addition to Hamm, Grimsburg stars Erinn Hayes as Harmony Flute, Rachel Dratch as Stan Flute, Alan Tudyk as “Dr. Rufis Pentos” and “Mr. Flesh,” Kevin Michael Richardson as “Detective Greg Summers,” and Greg Chun as “Lieutenant John Kang.””
Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel created the series and serve as consultants. Hamm serves as executive producer alongside Connie Tavel. Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady of The Jackal Group serve as executive producers. Chadd Gindin is executive producer and showrunner.
KRAPOPOLIS was renewed for season 5. (The series is currently wrapping up its second season.) The series “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on “Deliria,” goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus. “Shlub” is Deliria’s husband, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He’s the self-described life of the orgy, a true pleasure seeker who, if anyone needs him for anything, will be down at the bar. “Tyrannis,” Deliria and Shlub’s mortal son, is the self-involved but well-meaning King of Krapopolis attempting to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a new lifestyle experiment they’re calling “civilization.” “Stupendous” is Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops, who leads the Krapoplian army and could eat Hercules for breakfast. “Hippocampus” is Tyrannis’ fish-man half-brother, offspring of Shlub and an Atlantean queen, and Krapopolis’ resident semi-sociopathic mad scientist.”
Dan Harmon is creator and executive producer. Steve Levy and Eric Kaplan serve as executive producers. Alex Rubens is executive producer and showrunner.
UNIVERSAL BASIC GUYS was renewed for season 3. (Season 1 concluded in December 2024.) The series “centers on two brothers, Mark and Hank Hoagies (Adam Malamut), who lose their jobs to automation and are given $3,000 a month in a new basic income program. Now, they’re using their free time and free money to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed. In addition to Malamut, Universal Basic Guys stars Talia Genevieve as “Tammy,” Fred Armisen as “David,” and Ally Maki as “Andrea.””
Adam and Craig Malamut created the series and serve as executive producers and showrunners. Shane Kosakowski serves as executive producer.
This leaves THE GREAT NORTH as the last animated bubble show remaining for Fox.
Deadline was first to report the renewals.
