THE ROOKIE: Alexi Hawley Teases ‘Oscar Being Oscar’ in the Season 7 Finale

When THE ROOKIE season 6 concluded, imprisoned criminals Oscar (Matthew Glave) and Jason (Steve Kazee) escaped from jail. Though Jason reappeared earlier this season to torment his ex, Bailey (Jenna Dewan), Oscar has remained MIA.

But Oscar reappears in a big way in the May 13 season finale, “The Good, The Bad, And The Oscar,” as Nolan (Nathan Fillion) tries to figure out where the fugitive may be. Catching him, however, might be more difficult than even Nolan anticipates.

“Oscar’s been out there since the finale of last season,” THE ROOKIE showrunner Alexi Hawley tells Give Me My Remote. “Obviously, we made a choice in the [writers’] room that Jason was the more clear and present danger early in the season, given his threats to Bailey and Nolan. I liked the idea of having Oscar out there [as a wild card]: ‘Is he going to show up? When is he going to show up?’”

“And so [in the finale] we find Nolan having never lost track of the hunt for Oscar,” he continues. “We find Oscar being Oscar out there—selfish and money-grubbing and murderous. And that just seemed like a fun way to do the finale.”
