THE ROOKIE – “The Good, The Bad, And The Oscar” – John and Harper work together to catch Oscar; Angela investigates a bank robbery; Lucy and Tim learn to adapt to her new schedule, and Miles’ first date takes an unexpected turn. TUESDAY, MAY 13 (9:00-10:01 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Mike Taing)

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
FBI: It’s awful in real life and absolutely tragic that some some people are being suckered in by manipulative con people, but the look on Duke’s face when he realized his wife had been conned by someone who had stolen his online persona? A great bit of acting from Jere Burns.
While I appreciate they brought this storyline back, I’m also glad that they were able to get Duke for the harassment Isobel was dealing with. But, uh, I’m worried about the “it only gets worse from here” threat…is he talking about his followers? Something bigger he knows is coming?
(Also: When did Isobel tell the rest of the team about Phillip? Or did she assume OA told Maggie? But, man, I loved that scene between Isobel and Maggie. More of that next season, please.)
THE VOICE: Well, it’s going to be an interesting finale! I wasn’t really sure how voting would shake out, especially with more than half of the finalists being cut, but it did feel like Adam had coached Lucia into a spot, while I was worried the song choice (while absolutely FUN) might have hurt Jadyn; I’m glad I was right about Lucia, and very glad I was wrong about Jadyn.
FBI: INTERNATIONAL: “Friends afterwards.” Oh, I’m going to miss Vo and Raines so much. (And really wish he had gotten any significant storytelling this season, beyond the excellent and heartbreaking beats when Vo was hurt and he clearly thought she might die.)
I’m excited and intrigued (and worried) to see what the Fly Team deals with in Japan, though.
THE ROOKIE: It’s wild that in some ways we’re right where we started with Oscar and Monica at the end of last season: Both are effectively in the wind. (Monica brokered a deal so she can be more openly hostile, in theory; I’m curious to see what they do with her.) I do think showrunner Alexi Hawley was correct in our post-mortem—as much as I love Oscar, there is a limit to how many times he can actually get away. So I’m intrigued to see how they handle him next.
I know Lucy couldn’t do anything to actually jeopardize her recent promotion, but the “Dream Team” deserved to be punished for SLEEPING ON THE JOB?! Sigh. Hopefully, she gets a better shift ASAP. Especially after helping save Miles from the disastrous (and dangerous) date ambush.
I’m torn on the Chenford of it all. As soon as I saw how Tim was being framed, I knew she would be asleep. After a season filled with them dealing with miscommunication, I was frustrated. But, I guess, at least as viewers, we know exactly where Tim is and intends to be. (Does it feel like a little too much to jump straight to moving in? Yes. I absolutely want them back together. But that’s a huge step and Lucy is also undergoing a major, major, major life change/stress right now; moving—even if it’s to be with someone you love and want to spend your life with!—is very stressful and a lot of work. But…okay, if it makes them happy, whatever works.)
(Also: Nyla having to partner up with a kid who has a drone made me laugh out loud. I hope she had to bribe him to keep his mouth shut, given they absolutely did not stay out of danger, like she promised his mom.)
[For more on the episode, here’s what showrunner Hawley shared.]
FBI: MOST WANTED: The scene between Remy and Barnes, as he told her how happy he was for her about the potential new job, while also wanting to know why she didn’t tell him, was really well done. It was a genuinely lovely moment between two characters who have (understandably!) clashed at points. And I actually teared up when she said it would make it feel real; not only is it relatable, but it also felt like acknowledging this could be happening also means acknowledging the show is about to end. (Obviously, the characters don’t know that; but the moment felt more loaded for the actors, in a bittersweet way.)
But, man, the case. Organ harvesting?! I’m going to miss going WTF at the insane and horrifying things these criminals were up to. It also felt gratifying to see the FTF tell off the racists who were posing as ICE, too.
And hm to Remy’s call with Isobel at the end. Though really nice to have her in one of the final episodes of the show, given there’s a parallel universe where she was a regular part of this show from the start. (For those who weren’t following the franchise back then, Alana de la Garza was originally supposed to star on MW, but then they moved her to FBI instead.)
