About Last Night…FBI, FBI: INTERNATIONAL, FBI: MOST WANTED, and More

“The Circle Game” – The Fugitive Task Force hunts down a rogue government operative group that is planning a domestic terror attack. Also, the team prepares for big changes, on the series finale of FBI: MOST WANTED, Tuesday, May 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
FBI: I wish this had actually played out longer, weirdly enough. Having a traitor/group inside the FBI was interesting and compelling, but it all felt really rushed.
That being said, a badass episode. Our guys were action stars! It’s wild they were able to get all of this done at the end of a network television season (when everyone is exhausted and pulling all these stunts and sequences off might feel even more difficult). They can’t/shouldn’t do this often, but loved to see Our Guys versus The World. (Or, at least, the rest of the FBI.)
(I am choosing to believe Isobel will be fine, ultimately. Maybe she just has some struggles coming back to work next season after her ordeal.)
THE VOICE: A fun finale! Always love seeing Kelly Clarkson literally anywhere, plus, the Blake and Adam shenanigans were so freaking funny. (Yes, I died a little bit with joy over Jaelen and Kelsea singing “Whiskey Lullaby”; it’s a forever favorite for me, and they did it so well.)
I was a bit shocked by Adam David’s win, but I also think I would have been shocked by anyone’s win this year—there were compelling reasons/narratives for every single person up there to take it all home. But there was also a moment during his Instant Save performance last week where I went, “Oh, well, this may help him win it all”…I thought his performance was that good.
This was definitely a season where it feels like multiple artists should/could have a career. Fingers crossed they get what they deserve.
FBI: INTERNATIONAL: I think I would have really liked this episode/arc if it were a normal season finale or just in the middle of the season. The case was twisted/compelling, Wes’ working dynamic with Reiko was great (I almost wondered if he was going to try and poach her), and the episode looked gorgeous.
But I’m also really, really sad we didn’t get a finale that showcased the whole team. I get that there were probably logistics in play, where if you were going to film in Japan, most of the episode had to be there, but all the non-Wes characters were barely a blip in the hour. (And it’s a shame one/some of them didn’t go with him?) I wish, at the very least, we could have had some big final team moment.
I’m kind of torn on not getting an answer about who got promoted, too. On one hand, it allows us to imagine either possibility/no one actually lost the job. But we also didn’t get anything for Raines this season, really, and Vo hasn’t had that much since her midseason near-death experience. It might have worked a bit better for me if there were other elements of their life that had closure outside of that.
It sucks when a show gets canceled unexpectedly. It really does. And INTERNATIONAL got canceled fairly late in the season; I absolutely get this. I just wish there was a bit more closure.
FBI: MOST WANTED: Oh, those last five-ish minutes meant so much to me. I know we got some beats beforehand (Nina and her dad, Ray revealing his wife is pregnant), but Remy reiterating what the team meant to each other, seeing them laughing, and the love and joy…it meant so much.
I also love that Barnes was made the boss of the FTF. She did an incredible job as a leader earlier this season, and deserved to have this job, this team. I’m sad we won’t see it! But I love the notion that she is out there, leading Hana, Nina, and Ray, saving the day. And, hopefully, they stop into The Muster Room to roast Remy about the quality of their burgers, too.
I’ve said this before, but this season of FBI: MOST WANTED was arguably its best, taking the biggest swings of the show’s entire run. It’s wild to remember what the show went through during its time on the air—on-screen and off—but it really did end on a high. I’m not ready to say goodbye to the show, but I’m really grateful they went out the way they did.
