About Last Night: TERMINATOR, GOSSIP GIRL & PRISON BREAK

September 9, 2008 by

Enjoy these Mondays while you can, because in just a few short weeks things are going to get wildly out of control.  The Monday night TV schedule is so intense that not even my two DVRs will be able to keep up.  We’re still trying to figure out what we’re going to watch live, watch on DVR later in the evening and what shows will be pushed to weekend watching.  But for now it’s manageable.  So here’s a little bit of what I watched last night, and then I want to turn it over to YOU and find out what YOU thought of last night’s TV.

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES
Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesYesterday I shared my two cents on what I thought of last night’s season premiere of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.  I had issues with it but they weren’t enough to keep me from recommending the show. I was happy to see that the “previously on…” segment was far more built out than what they gave us on the press screener.  I’m sure many people benefited from it.

So I don’t have much more to add, other than to say that watching the episode again last night, I was really surprised by how much I was digging Shirley Manson as Catherine Weaver.  I always worry about musicians crossing over into acting, but Shirley was the real deal last night.  She cared the bejesus out of me and I think that’s what the writers were going for.

Did you watch the season 2 premiere last night?  Was last night the first time you saw the show or were you already a fan?  What was YOUR take on the episode?  Love it, hate it?  Share, share, share...

GOSSIP GIRL
Gossip Girl Season 2Dear Gossip Girl.  How much do I love thee.  let me count the ways.  After watching last week’s premiere of 90210 I found myself appreciating the cleverness of GOSSIP GIRL even more last night.  The quips are just a bit quippier (just go with it) and the drama so much more fun to watch play out.  Once again Blair and “Basshole” stole the show.  Sorry, but watching those two spar is just so delicious.  It’s like Tom and Jerry but with a hell of a lot of sexual tension.  And believe it or not, I’m not hating The Lord.  Chuck and Blair are so hot when they are at odds, that I’m not rooting for them to get together any time soon.

Nor and I rooting for Dan and Serena.  These two together are a bit of a snoozefest.  There was a reason they broke up in the first place and I think they need to figure that out before they get hot and heavy in any more bus bathrooms (ew!) or elevators.  Speaking of a little PDA, how about Nate and The Dutchess getting it on in the library.  “Oh my F’ing God!” — Blair Waldorf.  Blair has found her match in The Dutchess and it’s going to get a wee bit nastier before we hear any royal wedding bells.  Just wait until next week…it’s even better.

Oh and if anyone can help find me my own Dorota I’d very much appreciate it.

Time to be your own Gossip Girl.  Dish with me on last night’s ep.

PRISON BREAK
Prison BreakIt’s about damn time Michael Scofield got really pissed off.  The boy broods all the time but he rarely loses his temper.  That wasn’t the case last night when Michael confronted Agent Self with the news of the six cards of Scylla. Feeling he was set up, Michael protested their deal but Self is holding all the cards (sadly none of those cards are Scylla) and informed Michael that he had one day to get the cards or their deal was off and he and his band of merrymen were going back to jail. Uh Oh.  That’s not good.  No wonder Michael was all testy with his gang when he got back to the warehouse.

But not ones to give up,  the boys (and Sarah) did what they do best – break into places, break out of places and get arrested.  Geez, how many times can these people end up in handcuffs?  They’ve all been arrested at least 3 times in the 3 hours of PRISON BREAK we’ve had this season.  But once again Michael pulled through at the 11th hour and the guys were released and once again on the hunt for Scylla.  Lucky for them Michael snagged a cell phone vid featuring all six Scylla cardholders.  It pays off to be at the right place at the right time.

I’m finding that these first few episodes of PRISON BREAK to be really well paced.  The stand alone episodes make it easier to digest what’s going on which makes it much less of a daunting hour of TV.  While PRISON BREAK certainly peaked in its first season there’s just something about it that draws me in every season…and no it’s not just staring at Wentworth Miller, although that is certainly a perk.  Maybe I just like a good old fashioned heist!

And before I go, a few observations: (1) Did anyone else notice that Dominic Purcell gets top billing over Wentworth Miller?  Was that always the case and I’m now just noticing it?  Clearly Went is the star, so that confused me a bit. (2) Um, the previews for next week featuring Michael Scofield in a full police uniform…Day-um!

Thoughts on this season of PRISON BREAK so far?  If you’re watching there has to be a reason, right?  Spill it people!

Now it’s time to share.  Tell other GMMR readers what you thought of these shows.  Did you watch something I didn’t touch upon (like perhaps ONE TREE HILL?).  Tell us about it.

I love SCC! I paid special attention after reading your post yesterday and while there might have been one too many car chases, I get why they had to put it in there. I am still hooked.

PB – Dom has always had top billing. I think he was better known or had at least worked more when the show started than Went. Or maybe it’s because he has a big fat head. I liked last nights epi better than last weeks. Maybe I can only handle one hour at a time anymore. I just hope someone kills off Tbag this year. Please?

OTH is crazy! The whole Dan/Crazy nanny? I so saw that on Y&R back in the 70’s. Only it was Jill Abbott and Brad Carlton. Who is after Brooke? Mom is just too obvious, right? I like that Deb has two storylines though. I like her and her giant boobs. Next week will be really sad. I didn’t see it coming.

Last night’s “Gossip Girl” really was a barn-burner! I posted MP3s of my favorite scene (click my name above for the link).

I loved T:SCC for sure. The ending was freaking awesome. Shirley Manson is going to add a lot to the show, if her final scene is any indication.

As for PB, what I’m digging the most is the burgeoning relationship between Linc and Mahone. Will Linc forgive him for what Mahone did to their father? Will he still ‘settle up’ even after he’s helped Mahone track down creepy Cress Williams? And speaking of… he’s rocking out as this unfeeling assassin, that’s for sure. And is it just me or does SWC barely have any lines this season?

I prefer to say da-YUM when thinking of Wenworth in uniform!

I second Kathleen’s enthusiasm for the ending of Terminator. The liquid metal terminator from T2 is one of the most awesome movie villians ever created, and I was hoping we’d eventually see another one. And perhaps the episode had a bit too much running, but there was some pretty good action, such as the Cameron/truck sandwich. I think next week will have more character moments.

PB lost me last season, but I am digging it again. Except that it soon will be on the same time as Chuck and HIMYM, and I think that those two shows will win over it. I’ll probably be watching it on Hulu later in the week.

I def. agree that PB peaked in it’s first season. Last season pretty much sucked – though I wouldn’t know too much, because I basically stopped watching after they killed Sara. But now that she’s back, and Sona is burned and gone thankfully, PB is getting its groove back and is much better. And yeah, Dominic Purcell has always had top billing, but as the years have gone by, it’s just seemed more and more wrong since Went has always been the star of the show. I’m sure it’s in their contracts that he gets top billing, so oh well.

That being said, I gotta say, I hope that this season of PB is the last. The story feels stretched pretty thin at this point, and if they don’t take the company down this season and end it all…. oy. I just don’t think the story can sustain a 5th season.

OMG, Gossip Girl. How fabulous it is! I can’t wait for next week to see Blair and Chuck’s dark-roomed encounter. Every time the two of them are on screen together, it’s amazing.
