Angel vs. Booth: The Great Boreanaz Debate Results Show

October 30, 2008 by

Wow, wow, wow. First of all, you are all the shiz. You really are. But you know, you’re also kind of easy. Who knew that a couple of pics of DB shirtless would get you all warmed up enough to post your heartfelt emotions?

But, you’re here for the results of “Angel vs. Booth: The Great Boreanaz Debate“, posted just about two weeks ago on GMMR . I want to say that I was so happy with everyone’s answers. And I laughed a lot as I tallied them up for you. I also told myself I would allow myself one ‘over rule’. If I thought you all were wrong, I was going to trump you, but only once. Keep reading to see if I needed to use it.

If you remember, we asked you to choose between two of David Boreanaz’s most memorable characters, Angel (from BUFFY and ANGEL) or Booth (from BONES), in each of the categories below.  The response was great and we especially loved those of you who backed up your votes with examples.

We’re breaking it down Dr. Jack style. Here are your results.

1. Is more able to rally a team together:

Over two-thirds of you said Booth, and I’m cool with that. Angel was a loner, and he was lucky that his team wouldn’t let him shake them. With Booth, he cuts through the rationalities of the squint squad and forces heart onto them. And solves crimes in the process. EDGE: Booth

2. Has better moments of unleashed power:

To quote ‘Taz’… “Angel. Um, hello…vampire!” Haha, that made me laugh. And most of you agreed. Honorable mention to Booth vs. Vega. EDGE: Angel

3. Best Rescue:

Angel does have some good rescues, including people he hated, but he also coldly left the room of lawyers to suffer the fate of Dru and Darla. Booth though…yes, his running down the hill is very inspiring, as well as the bullet and breaking out of the hospital to save Bren from Kenton. EDGE: Booth

4. Best Father:

I have the sense that both Booth and Angel have kind of gotten a raw deal when it comes to their sons. They both have a lot to give, and it’s just not quite working 100%. In the case of Angel, yeah, sure, Connor sends him out to sea. With Parker, it’s more Rebecca coming between them. I’m going to say… EDGE: Booth

5. Better Hair Evolution:

28 of you chose Booth. But 28 of you are wrong. I’m sorry, but the correct answer is Angel. I’m calling in my trump card, here.

David Boreanaz, Tuxedo

Waiting in the Wings is probably my favorite hair episode. And to think he did it all without looking into a mirror? BIG EDGE: Angel

6. More Loyal:

Maybe this is cheating, but I’m going to agree with those of you who said both. Booth is loyal to the people in his life. Angel is loyal to the cause. EDGE: Even

7. Best moment of dialogue:

I think “Fred’s” got it right. “Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It’s harsh and cruel. That’s why there’s us. Champions. It doesn’t matter where we come from, what we’ve done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world were as it should be, to show it what it can be.” And Angel wins because, in the end, this is something Booth wishes he’d said first. EDGE: Angel

8. Faces the more impossible love:

Um, okay…so… Angel 36, Booth 0. EDGE: Angel

9. Has the more tortured past:

A lot of you said Angel, and I think I’ll agree. Booth has a tough past, but it doesn’t affect his relationship with Brennan, at least, not that much yet. Angel on the other hand, that pesky old ‘evil’ life keeps creeping up, and that’s tough. EDGE: Angel

10. Is more vulnerable (in a good way):

I’ll throw this one out to ‘Just Jane’: “Booth. He has a hard candy coating but will totally melt in your mouth.” and Nicole: “Booth, I bet you any amount of money, that if Brennan took the first step…you’d see some hot vulnerable action from him.” Um, yes, please! On the other hand, Angel, in Slouching Toward Bethlehem, and a bunch of other times, he is just achingly special. This one was tough, so I’m going with the crowd on this one…EDGE: Booth.

11. Is more capable of overcoming great weakness:

I think this is the most fascinating. To me, Booth’s greatest weakness is his ‘savior’ complex. More than the gambling, he wants to make sure everyone is okay, especially Brennan, much to her dismay. Angel, on the other hand, besides the wanting to drink human blood thing, I think deals with well…yeah, it’s the drinking blood thing. I wasn’t sure about this one, so I asked my dad and my brother which was a bigger weakness, drinking human blood or gambling? My brother laughed and my dad said, “Who’s Angel?” Good times. EDGE: Angel

12. Looks better in his gratuitous bare chested scene.

This one ended up being tough, because the picture of Booth exceeded the picture of Angel, and some of you commented that in general, Angel was better. But, in the end, Booth had more votes. Edge: this guy…

FINAL VERDICT: Well, when I tallied up the scores (and gave one point each for number 6), the score was Angel: 7, Booth 6. So, there you have it. Thanks to everyone who made this such a great time. See you next week when I’ll try to choose the top five ANGEL episodes ever.

Once again, thanks to Space for her great work on the header. I love it. And thanks to Smurfs for her help with some pictures.

Fantastic debate! Don’t you wish we could have a televised DB debate rather than some of the ones we’ve had to deal with during the election?

I love both characters but I have to give an extra swoon vote for Booth because Booth smiles more and that just makes me melt anytime that happens. 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I think I must have missed the original debate but I loved reading the results. Terrific job all around. Both are terrific characters and I’m sure DB has enjoyed the opportunity to craft these characters.
