Jane Seymour Teases Her CASTLE Guest Spot

March 21, 2011 by

In Monday’s brand new episode of CASTLE, Beckett and Castle investigate a murder on the set of a daytime drama.

While there are winks to the genre and many of the actors have a soap opera background, “One Life to Lose” guest star Jane Seymour had no daytime experience. So what drew her to the show?

“I got a phone call [asking] would I like to do it,” Seymour told me. “Happily, it fit into a very busy schedule and I had the time to do it. I read it and thought it was very good and a fun little part, so I showed up. I think it’s a great show.”

As for her actual part on the series, Seymour was a bit coy.

“The episode is all about a soap opera that happens in New York called TEMPTATION LANE,” she teased. “And basically there is a murder that happens — the [soap opera’s] head writer is murdered — and I play the mother of this girl. And obviously I’m the grieving mother, but there’s more to it than that. I just can’t give everything away. I think you have to watch the episode to see! There’s more to the character of Gloria than meets the eye.”

While revealing too much about Gloria’s backstory would ruin part of the episode, Seymour did reveal that she didn’t know her character’s history when she signed on to the role.

“I had no idea where they were going to go with the character,” she said. “When I read it, I didn’t know [the twist]. I thought it was fun. I wish I could have done more. I had such a good time working with everybody.”

And while Seymour is busy with a film career (LAKE EFFECTS and LOVE, WEDDING, MARRIAGE will be released this year), art shows all over the country, her Open Hearts foundation, an ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT gig as a correspondent for the Royal Wedding, and many more projects, she told me she would be willing to pop up on CASTLE again.

“I would be delighted to work on CASTLE again if they ever ask me, absolutely,” she said. “I would imagine if for some reason people like seeing me in CASTLE and they tell the network, CASTLE might find a way to get me back. I know they told me they enjoyed having me.”

The lovefest between Seymour and the show was mutual. When I asked her what her favorite part about filming the show was, she immediately replied it was the cast and crew of CASTLE.

“The people,” Seymour said. “They’re just lovely, really lovely. Terrific director and the actors were lovely. They were so supportive and genuinely seemed to be excited that I was joining them. Having been on a show myself for seven years and knowing how hard it is to keep up the pace, for them to spend as much time being as welcoming to me as they did was very impressive and I told them so.”

Will you be tuning in to CASTLE tonight?
