GREY’S ANATOMY: Chyler Leigh Teases What’s to Come in the Jackson-Lexie-Mark Triangle

March 23, 2011 by

For GREY’S ANATOMY’s Lexie, things are finally looking up. Sure, her former boyfriend, Mark, knocked up his kinda-ex, but Lexie is having some fun of her own with Jackson and their blossoming romance.

I chatted with Chyler Leigh (Lexie) about the return of GREY’S ANATOMY, the Mark-Lexie-Jackson triangle and if Lexie would make a good stepmother…

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new episode of GREY’S ANATOMY! What can you tease about this week’s hour?
CL: It does seem like forever, yeah! Well, this episode coming up…you’re starting to see a little bit more budding between Lexie and Jackson and how that is developing. And there is also a baby shower that Mark and Arizona are trying to throw for Callie, which proves to be quite hysterical. And also, awkward. Lexie shows up at the baby shower with everyone else and it definitely…there’s an interesting few moments between Lexie and Mark at the shower. Which is again quite awkward.

Yeah, once again Lexie is finding herself on the outside looking in on Mark’s fatherhood plans. Do you think Lexie has gotten to the point where she’s over her feelings for Mark?
CL: Um, I think a part of her is. I think a part of her just wants to be able move on and not have to deal with that kind of stuff anymore and can see the potential of having a relationship with Jackson. He’s her age, pretty much, and they’re at the same place in their life and their career. They want the same thing, they care about one another, they’re there for one another and they have fun together. There are plenty of reasons why it definitely should work between her and Jackson.

But the underlying thing is, she loves Mark. And I think she’s always going to love Mark. I think it just proves to be quite complicated in how that can either get in the way of her and Jackson or completely derail her all together.

I have to say, I’m adoring Jackson and Lexie together.
CL: Yeah and we definitely see more of that through the end of this season. You start to see even more about who Jackson is — and also Lexie as well. They definitely have a really good thing going. And like I said, there are so many reasons why it should work. I just don’t know exactly if it will, or if it does, how long it will last or perhaps it will stick. I don’t know.

Does Mark find out about the new couple?
CL: He ends up finding out in the episode that’s coming up this week.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say he doesn’t react too favorably to that news.
CL: He’s definitely not excited. No. I don’t think he really likes the idea very much. [Laughs]

In some ways Mark could see it as a betrayal, since he turned to Jackson to try and get information about how Lexie was doing.
CL: Yeah. I mean, it’s definitely an interesting scenario. When Jackson was sent in there to do that and he sees how devastated she is by the whole situation, I don’t think he wanted to divulge that [to Mark] and give that away about Lexie because of how hurt and broken she feels about the whole thing. And so I do think when he did that it was very genuine, I don’t think it was like, “Oh, I’m going to be sneaky about this and steal his girl from him” or anything like that. There is obviously — you can see that he really cares about her.

But that is really interesting. We haven’t seen anything come up between Jackson and Mark as of yet, but we still have two episodes to go to film. [Laughs] There’s still plenty of room for it, I guess!

A season-ending blow-up wouldn’t be unheard of for GREY’S ANATOMY…
CL: No, it wouldn’t be unheard of. Nor would some sort of fist fight, because that seems to be a trend, too! [Laughs] But I’m not saying there will be.

Do you have any idea of how the season might end?
CL: I don’t know, actually. [We just had] the table read for episode 21, so I don’t have a clue what’s happening — if there is any huge event happening. But I wouldn’t expect anything other than a fantastic finish from [GREY’S ANATOMY creator] Shonda [Rhimes].

But what I do know about my own character is it’s definitely going to be more of a personal journey as opposed to a huge medical drama. But yeah, it’s definitely going to be that question of coming down between Jackson and Mark. And I don’t know which way she’s going to go or who she’s going to choose. And I’m sure it’ll probably stretch into next season, too. Gotta keep that drama going!

Exactly. If she dumps one guy this season, she can reunite with him next season.
CL: There you go.

And Mark is a complicated man to deal with at this time, so that allows for more layers of the triangle.
CL: Exactly.

Do you think Lexie would be a good stepmother if she and Mark can work things out?
CL: Oh boy. I think she’d have a lot to learn as far as child-rearing, that would be for sure. I think there are so many qualities in Lexie that she would definitely make an great stepmom. She just severely lacks experience. [Laughs] So she’d have to get a big learning curve.

Which way are you leaning in the GREY’S love triangle?

I love Mark/Lexie together, as long as they reunite in the future it’s ok to have some drama.

Let’s see, Jackson or the geezer Mark who has now gotten three women pregnant that we know of and looks like her granddad. Well, looks like Mark is currently busy “pervin'” on Callie and will always be on call for his kid there, so I’m way more interested in seeing her date a character like Jackson that doesn’t look like he’s trolling the kiddies playground like Mark is when he’s with Lexie, looking for his dates. Mark and Lexie weren’t as creep as Gizzie, but let’s face it, they’re a close second.

    I love you, Jamie. LOL!

The fans who want Mark with Lexie probably hate Lexie Grey that much. Mark Sloan is the kind of guy you would advise your girlfriends to steer clear of. That is, if you care about your girlfriends. I wouldn’t wish Mark Sloan on anyone.

Wait no…actually, I think he and Callie deserve each other totally. And I don’t mean that in a complimentary way.

Jackson and Lexie all the way.

Mark hasn’t even thought about her after he tried to get info out of Jackson. Lexie deserves someone who thinks of her as more then a passing afterthought.

Plus that shower scene…HOTNESS! Bring on the pretty.
