UTOPIA will premiere on Friday, September 25, Amazon announced.

From SHARP OBJECTS’ Gillian Flynn, the series is inspired by the British show of the same name. In the US version, it follows “a group of comic fans who meet online and bond over their obsession of a seemingly fictional comic called, ‘Utopia.’ Together, Ian (Dan Byrd), Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon “Wanna” Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of “Utopia,” predicting threats to humanity. They realize these are not just the makings of a conspiracy; they are very real dangers coming alive right now in their world. The high-stakes adventure brings the group face-to-face with the comic’s famed central character, Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane), who joins them on their mission to save the world while harboring secrets of her own.” The series also stars John Cusack as Dr. Kevin Christie, Rainn Wilson as Dr. Michael Stearns, Farrah Mackenzie as Alice, Christopher Denham as Arby, and Cory Michael Smith as Thomas Christie.

As the Cloud 9 employees were faced with learning a new company app in SUPERSTORE’s “Employee App,” the characters were delighted by one reveal: an audiobook of the CEO’s autobiography, which was read by Emily Deschanel.

“I’m a total BONEShead,” Sandra (Kaliko Kauahi) enthused. And Sandra didn’t waste any time downloading the audiobook, as Deschanel read the intro to the book—”Who Run the World? Me”—and the start of the Zephra CEO’s story.

So how did Deschanel—who had done previous voiceover work on THE SIMPSONS, AMERICAN DAD, and THE CLEVELAND SHOW—come to be on the show? Series creator Justin Spitzer—who returned to the comedy to make his directorial debut (he’s also working on a new NBC pilot AMERICAN AUTO)—explained via email how it went down… Read more

Comments Off on BACKSTROM Recap: ‘Love is a Rose and You Better Not Pick It’

Hello BACKSTROM fans! It’s hard to believe we are in the final half of season 1. I have to say that the past couple of episodes, including this one — “Love is a Rose and You Better Not Pick It” — have been great, and the show’s style has been more successful lately. I would be glad to see this show renewed for a second season. Until any announcement has been made one way or the other, let’s discuss this episode! Read more

BACKSTROM revealed a secret romance in last night’s episode, “Ancient, Chinese, Secret.”

According to series star Kristoffer Polaha (Niedermeyer), the seeds were planted from the start, as he told his co-star, Beatrice Rosen (Paquet) they should just play that there was something there. And, voilà!

On the show’s Vancouver set, Polaha spoke with reporters about the romantic revelation…and, after learning what the term “shipper” means, tried to help brainstorm what the couple’s name should be…

backstrom-tinyThink you know the new Fox series, BACKSTROM? Well, just wait until you hear the cast and creator Hart Hanson attempt to explain it.

In the (hilarious) exclusive video below, the cast — Rainn Wilson, Dennis Haysbert, Genevieve Angelson, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy, Beatrice Rosen, and Thomas Dekker — and Hanson share their pitches for the show, but can’t get it quite right. There are a lot of giggles, pitches to show Wilson’s butt on network TV, some misspeaking (nope, this isn’t taking place in the “special victims unit”), a ton of poking fun at each other, and general hilarity.

Just try to watch this video and keep a straight face… Read more

backstrom-smallBACKSTROM’s title character is in hot water.

While viewers know that Backstrom shot a suspect (and himself) in the show’s pilot, his claim that it was a justified shooting — and that Visser shot him — is being investigated by the Civilian Oversight Committee…led by Backstrom’s ex-fiancee, Amy (Sarah Chalke).

When the two go head-to-head in this exclusive clip from Thursday’s episode, “I Am A Bird Now,” Backstrom, originally, tries to get out of the situation by going over his police statement — which Amy rebuffs — and then he attempts sarcasm. But when Amy emphasizes how serious this could be, Backstrom’s already questionable health takes a turn.

Take a look at what goes down in Thursday’s opening scene…
