Rosie Not Returning to THE VIEW

May 25, 2007 by

The revolving door at THE VIEW swings once more. Rosie O’Donnell has opted not to return to THE VIEW despite having three weeks left on her contract. Rosie’s decision is of course due to the very heated, on-air argument she had with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck earlier this week.

In a statement released this afternoon, THE VIEW’s Barbara Walters said: “I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at The View. I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change. ” Rosie released her own statement saying: “I’m extremely grateful. It’s been an amazing year and I love all three women.” Well she might love Barbara, and she certainly loves Joy, but who is this third woman she is talking about?

So here we go again. Let the search for a new co-host commence. Hey, I wonder if this week’s brouhaha and her early departure means Rosie won’t be returning next season as a guest co-host and to do the segments she had talked about…hmmm.

Glad to see her go. Regardless of whether or not I agree with her political viewpoints, she has become an overbearing, patronizing bully who has no room for anyone else’s opinions but her own. As for Elisabeth, I don’t agree with her either, but she is outnumbered on a daily basis and the only way she can make herself be heard is to raise her voice over Rosie’s snide “Oh, Elisabeth, you’re so….young, naive, wrong, etc”. If you don’t agree with her, then she basically thinks you’re an idiot. They have done nothing but beat a dead horse for weeks now, and it was annoying as hell. I don’t care for Rosie anymore, but, that being said, she has done a lot to support the troops at home, and maybe she can just devote all that energy towards helping the men and women in Walter Reed and the other VA hospitals throughout the country. That is, if they even want her help.

Apparently there was something about her chief writer defacing Elizabeth’s photo’s all over the studio as well. Somewhat miss the days when an exit was done with grace and dignity. Seems as though it is common culture to air out the dirty laundry instead of behind closed doors to save face.

I don’t think The View was the best place for Rosie to be. I have most of the same opinions she does but I don’t think The View’s setting was right for her.

But I also wish they’d get rid of Elisabeth. It’s one thing to be conservative…that’s all well and good, everyone’s entitled to his or her own opinions…but it’s a completely different thing to be stupid and whiny.

I loved Rosie and i’m sad to see her leave.

The person who should walk out the door is Elizabeth Hasselback. She is the most annoying, close minded person on this show. I hate how the media paints Rosie as being the bully when Elizabeth is the one constanly pushing Rosie (see weds. fight. Rosie calm cool voice, Elizabeth pushy confrontational LOUD). Elizabeth gets on my last nerve with her unwillingness to listen to other peoples opinions (again weds. tape -she was being so rude and sarcastic, interruputing Joy everytime she said something). And i’m a republican!

I am by no means saying that Elizabeth isn’t whiny, but I can’t say that she is completely closed-minded either. Yes, she is an extremely conservative Christian/Republican, but I have seen her become much more accepting of things outside of her comfort zone since Rosie joined the show. She is no longer defending every Republican in office, she agrees that the was is a mistake (though she thinks early withdrawal is a bad idea), and has become more accepting of gay marriage, etc. I haven’t exactly seen Rosie taking any of E’s ideas/opinions to heart. And, love her or hate her, Elizabeth does represent the views of a large portion of America. Just b/c the last elections swung back to the democratic side doesn’t mean that people’s values have changed, just that they’re fed up with Bush’s decisions. Without her, what would the show be? A bunch of liberal women all agreeing with each other? What’s interesting about that?

i love what Elisabeth has brought to the show – its nice to have a conservative view point. I just wish she was more open-minded, b/c there are plenty of issues on which not only does she refuse to budge, but refuse to even truly look at objectively. I think its ironic Rosie called her a coward yet Rosie is the one who isn’t going back. But I think its too much for her, I think loyalty to her is a big deal and in her mind, Elisabeth was not loyal to her in defending her the way Rosie felt she should have been defended, or the way Rosie claims she would have defended Elisabeth, and that in and of itself could have been all that she wrote and Rosie decided, for her well being, to leave early. I dunno. I’m sad though b/c love her or hate her, think she’s a fat loud mouth or not (and its hysterical to me how many people really do call her fat, its so immature), she changed that show, she made that show interesting and newsworthy, something it hadn’t been … well… ever before, really.

    Amen, Mary.

I don’t even care about either Rosie or Elizabeth’s views. It was the mere fact that Elizabeth’s beliefs and values are constantly being attacked by the other women on the show and she finally stood up for herself. Good for her. I feel for Elizabeth: I would have been out of there in no time if i had to deal w/ the crap she has had to deal w/. I wanted Elizabeth to leave the show b/c clearly all she was was a punching bag for the other women. Don’t care what views they’re expressing: clearly three against one every time.

Elisabeth will be the death of that show if she sticks around – that’s what I predict. After learning that Rosie won’t be returning to finish the three weeks left in her contract, I now have no need to watch the remaining three weeks. Barbara, Elisabeth and Joy? Joy is great, but she can’t carry the show all by herself. Barbara is increasingly annoying and Elisabeth – well, I have no words. I don’t want to hear her View on anything, ever again. Okay, I guess I had a few words.

  9. Janet on May 25th, 2007 10:07 pm

I’m actually sad to see Rosie leave. Sure she is loud and over bearing at times, but I’ve watched The View more this year then ever before. I loved that she says what all of us are thinking and she wouldn’t hold back. Sometimes I think she should have just bit her tounge, but Elizabeth was at fault for this fight..She wouldn’t let it go..So I hope they find a great replacement for Rosie and Elizabeth for that matter. But I have a feeling I won’t be watching anymore…

I honestly dont know how Elizabeth can go do that every day. I’m 100% on her side and I’d go crazy if I had people working with me who constantly did things like make up lists of why our president should be out of office. Have some respect, people.

  11. shari on May 26th, 2007 11:36 am

Brooke… its kind of hard to have respect for a president who ignores the fact that the majority of the people in this country and ON THE PLANET disagree with the war. Why should we have respect for him? That list was fair, IMO, just like itwas fair for Elisabeth to disagree. It pisses me off people say its Anti-American. Since when is it only American to agree w/ EVERY. SINGLE. THING. our government does? Do people just forget about the Vietnam War? Our country is at its best when people are passionate about what we are doing in the world. I think its a shame Rosie will be leaving, I loved to see the debates b/t all of the women, at least when they weren’t getting personal.

  12. sc on May 26th, 2007 6:54 pm

Right, but i don’t think that the fact that he “choked on a pretzel” makes him a bad president. what the heck? i don’t mind if people like Joy want to give facts to support opinions, but that was ridiculous, and to me, undermined any of the other facts she had on the sheet.

  13. shirley macdonald on May 27th, 2007 1:27 pm

I have been watching the show for years and for me the year with Rosie was the best. In my opinion Elizabeth is the one who should be leaving the show.Rosie asked her one simple question with a yes or no answer and she wouldn’t respond the way she should have ,instead she went all around it and put it back on Rosie. She believes in nothing but her own opinions. She is overbearing and obnixious, when she starts talking over everyone, she talks so fast most people can’t understand a word she is saying. Think about this, since
Elizabeth started the show 2 other people have left and it certainly wasn’t Rosie’s fault.
If Elizabeth is kept on the show I for one will certainly not watch.
The producers should look at what Rosie has contributed in less than a year to the ratings,Elizabeth has contributed nothing.

  14. Cha on May 27th, 2007 2:41 pm

Why in the hell was Rosie pissed off that Elizabeth wasn’t standing up for Rosie? Hello, if you’re going to get all pissy and call the American troops terrorists, you damn well better be able to stand up for yourself and your own opinions and not get mad when someone who doesn’t ever agree with you in the first place doesn’t stand up for what you say. Typical Rosie, typical liberal.
It’s about time Rosie is off TV once again. Of course she has the right to say what she thinks, that’s why it’s America — because we can say what we think.
Shari — are you really absolutely sure that the majority of the people on the PLANET disagree with the war? I’m amazed that the whole planet was polled. I didn’t know they could do that. Must have taken them a long time to translate it into all those different languages.

Also — why does Elizabeth have to be the one that needs to be more open-minded? Because she’s the only conservative voice on the show? That’s a bunch of bull. Rosie is the most closed-minded piece of crap I’ve seen on tv. If you don’t agree that President Bush is evil or gay is the way to be, then you are wrong and she yells at you. Talk about not being open-minded. Sheesh.

  15. Kris on May 29th, 2007 12:25 pm

I never watched ‘The View’ before Rosie – and will stop now that she’s off. While her opinions may not always be my own – she started real conversation on the view – a total bore before her. I’ll miss her – and the ideas and thought-provoking issues she brought with her.
