TR Knight Confirms that Isaiah Washington is a Liar!!!

Someone, who asked to remain anonymous, just sent me this transcript from a portion of Ellen Degeneres’ interview with Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight which will air later today. Read on and you will see that Isaiah Washington did in fact use a ignorant, homosexual slur towards T.R. and then proceeded to LIE about in the press room the night of the Golden Globes. This is AMAZING (and not in good way)…read on.

Ellen: So here’s the thing. Some of you may know the story, some of you may not know the story.

Ellen: How long ago did this happen?

T.R.: Early October

Ellen: So Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington are on the set. A scene is about to start and they start getting in a fight and words..

T.R: Not because I was late.

Ellen: And Isaiah Washington says what to Patrick Dempsey?

T.R: He referred to me as a faggot.

Ellen: As a faggot?

T.R: Yes

Ellen: So you’re around the corner and hear this?

T.R: It’s an awesome word isn’t it? (joking)

Ellen: It is. It really is unbelievable. It’s bad enough in school yards that happens but, grown men

T.R.: Everyone heard it.

Ellen: He said this horrible, hateful word and it puts you in this position because your weren’t out and then everyone on the set is hearing this and then you …

T.R: I was under no delusions.. my friends on the set knew. We talked about it.. they knew. I was not under any delusion that they didn’t know but I think publicly it’s not my thing to like call up People Magazine and be like hey you want to know something about me? You know, I think when it happened (the incident) I’ve never been called it and you know you go through things in life and you lose friends when you go through the process whatever your journey is but I’ve never been called that to my face. So, I think when that happened something shifted and it became bigger you know what I mean, then myself. I look to people like you (Ellen) and it’s April right almost ten years (when Ellen came out) to your bravery and others people’s bravery and your just really grateful for that because I could’ve just let it slide and not said anything but it became important.

Ellen: And it became a thing in the press because of the fight

T.R: To say something, It became important to make the statement…

On the recent Golden Globe incident

Ellen: And then the other night at the Golden Globes I guess Isaiah Washington starting up the whole thing up again which is kind of crazy…

T.R.: Yeah, he denied that he said it (faggot)..I don’t know what to say…really about that.

Ellen: I don’t either, other than it seems like at this point and time we should not say hateful words to one another and we should all learn…

Ellen: I just wish you continued success and that this is out of the way and that people stop saying hateful things to one another or just using that word is dangerous.

T.R.: It is and I don’t know what to say about it but it’s pretty bad..

Ellen: But I’m proud of you, you’re a brave guy.

T.R.: But, thanks to you.. it was ten years ago… but it just made all the difference in the world..

Ellen: It was a different time and things are getting better.

T.R: I was recently watching some of your interviews from that time and it was just .. It was so..I’m losing my words and I apologize it’s just very moving and it just meant so much.

Ellen:
Well, what your doing is going to mean something to other people that are seeing that because you’re an amazing guy, so I’m proud of you.

GMMR reader Thursday Morning just passed along this quote from TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello who summed it up best by saying:

“His (Isaiah Washington) continued employment on a show that wears its diversity as a badge of honor is the height of hypocrisy. If ABC wants to be remotely true to the principles Shonda Rhimes so eloquently espouses through the show, it has to do the right thing and fire Washington. Anything else at this point is simply unacceptable.”

I did like Dr. Burke, but it seems like the show is making it very easy not to care about his storyline anymore. I don’t know if they are doing that in order to make it easy for his character to be written off the show. Maybe his hand won’t work still and he will have to go work somewhere else.

There’s a clip on Ellen’s website, http://ellen.warnerbros.com/, near the bottom of the page that is a sneak preview of today’s episode where TR says this. The link is titled with TR’s name and something about the Grey’s Controversy. Poor TR…I’m glad he finally officially confirmed that it did happen though. IW needs to be fired!

Kath, I’m just jumping on this bandwagon. Seriously I’ve been in a coma or something and missed all the Globes bruhaha. As your main gay this is fraktastic to read.

I DEMAND ISAIAH WASHINGTON BE FIRED as I have been for months now. What a twunt.

It’s too bad that this all had to happen, seriously. I honestly think that Shonda and ABC handled it poorly to begin with, and now look what it’s turned into. For crying out loud, they had those three go on Oprah and lie about it! Well, I guess it wasn’t a lie at the time considering what we know now–that they were using the wrong word. But still, doesn’t make a darn difference. They should have just admitted that IW made a mistake and they could have moved on. Instead, they sat on it and didn’t say anything about for the longest time, then made comments which no one believed by then because IW’s work history came out….then this? I just wonder what ABC’s next move is going to be.

I agree, it’s definitely time for NBC to terminate Isaiah Washington’s contract! Grey’s Anatomy is an amazing show with a talented cast and I.W. isn’t worthy of being a part of it. In addition, Dr. Burke’s storyline is pathetic, which only adds more fuel to the fire.

You know, at the time the incident occurred, I felt that as long as Isaiah Washington made a public apology for it and then a private one to both Patrick and T.R. Knight and as long as T.R and Patrick accepted his apology as sincere and moved on, then I shouldn’t be the one to judge. I am not perfect by any means so to hold someone else accountable to those standards is a bit hipocritical in my book.

But now it seems those apologies weren’t sincere in the slightest. It also appears that he hasn’t truly realized the impact a word like that causes. For these reasons I think it would be in the best interest of the show to terminate his contract. Perhaps that will show him humility and honesty.

The whole situation is so sad. Why did Isaiah W. have to say anything at the GG awards at all, now that we know from T.R. that the situation was true to everything that was rumored? I really enjoyed Isaiah on the show, but it will be so difficult for everyone to continue working together and for the audience not to have this whole thing in the back of their minds when watching the show. I understand that Katherine H. and T.R. felt they needed to address it since Isaiah brought the whole thing up anyway, but it’s unfortunate that the whole incident had to be revisited again.

As much as I like Grey’s, the whole mess unfortunately takes something away from the show when it shouldn’t. Hopefully it will somehow be resolved and everyone can move on.

The Ellen interview was really touching – I saw it a couple of hours ago (airs in Toronto at 10am). IW would be fired in any other work situation for using that kind of language to hurt another co-worker. His behaviour at the Golden Globes just confirms his lunacy. T.R. Knight is handling this beautifully considering he was thrown into the situation against his will. Kudos to him and Katherine Heigel for standing up for what’s right. I hope the rest of the cast follows suit and that ABC gets rid of the source of the problem.

I have to say that it’s really sad that all of this is going on with the Greys cast cause it is such a great show. But I also think tha Isaiah needs to own up of he actually said those things and apologize. And major props to Katherine for standing up for her bff, it’s made me like her ten times more.

It’s also very sad that what should have been a night of celebration turned into a rehashing of very negative events.

So everyone here is talking about Isaiah Washington should be fired, but when Kreamer (Michael Richards) went on a racial tirade that was caught on video. But you dont hear anyone talking about bannding the reruns of Signfield. But I guess because IW did not go on the Ellen show and apologizes for using the F-word then he is not forgive. I dont think he would have being fired in any other job, because it wasnt pervasive, even anything they should have him take a class on tolerant. I don’t understand homesexuality, my religion doesn’t support it but I dont think I should disrespect someone because they are homosexual. So IW just needs some sensitivity training, like the rest of the world.

    T. R. Knight reminded me of a little kid tattling to the teacher on Ellen. By all means insist on being treated with respect, but rather than dealing with Washington personally and professionally as an adult fighting his own battles, Knight retaliated by offering Washington up to a P.C. lynch mob, complete with reeducation camps! This is beyond just pathetic, it’s cowardly and vindictive.

  16. Francesca on April 10th, 2007 3:11 am

I think T. R. Knight is pathetic and unprofessional. By all means be assertive with Washington if he is disrepectful-but somebody at work says something you don’t like and you throw them to a P.C. lynch mob?
