So Say We All: YOUR Take on Monday Night TV

October 9, 2007 by

So many shows to discuss.  I hope you’re all ready to ‘so say we all’ it up because there’s a lot to talk about today.

First up Chuck, Prison Break & Heroes – if you’re looking to chat with others about each of these shows, check them out here (the conversations are already underway) : Chuck Recap: Chuck vs. the Tango | Prison Break Recap: Good Fences | Heroes Redux

How I Met Your Mother

Just a ho hum episode for me.  Nothing all that memorable about it. I laughed, as always but I didn’t think it was all that great.  And let me just say that unless Robin is wearing acid washed jeans and signing about a mall I don’t think she’s funny enough to carry the B-plot on her own.  Lily & Robin – yes.  Robin on her own? No.  Ted’s tricycle story would have been a lot more fun if Barney were at the bar with him.  Then again, everything is funnier with Barney.  I wonder if when Robin is done with her razor she can let me use it to cut Ted’s hair?!

The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory
I had written this show off after the pilot.  It just didn’t hold my interest.  But it seems that many of you enjoyed it.  There were more than a few endorsements in the past two Monday’s ‘so say we all’ posts so I decided to give it another try last night.  I will say that I thought last night’s ep was funnier than the pilot.  I don’t think it’s up there with THE OFFICE, 30 ROCK and HIMYM but I still chuckled a few times.  I was really and I mean really distracted by the laugh track though. And I’m not a laugh track snob (well a little) but I just finished watching HIMYM which also has a track and I didn’t notice it.  But on The Big Bang Theory I felt that the laugh track was distracting. Maybe that’s just me being a snob.

Journeyman

Ah, it kills me but I haven’t watched the full episode yet.  I’ll watch it tonight but feel free to comment away.  I can close my eyes.

What else did you all watch last night?  Monday’s are exhausting, aren’t they?!

I wasn’t distracted by the laugh-track at all on Big Bang Theory…I think it’s just something people tend to notice if they aren’t into the show as much.

You have to admit, the guy who plays Sheldon (wears all the comic book shirts) has great comedic timing….

I’ve already started calling Big Bang, “The Next ‘How I Met Your Mother'”.

I thought last night’s episode of HIMYM was the best one of this season. I was glad because the first two weren’t that great and I don’t want this show to fail. I know Robin and Ted can’t just hang out with the gang right away because of the breakup, but I miss everyone being together.

I watched Big Bang for the first time last night, also because everyone here gave it the green light. I laughed out loud several times, but I don’t think it will make my must-see list. If it’s on and I’m not busy, then I’ll watch, but that’s all I can give right now.

I seriously love Journeyman. I keep thinking that maybe I’ll avoid it so I don’t get my heart as broken if they cancel it, but I love it too much to stay away. 🙂

I agree with you about the HIMYM episode except the part about Ted’s hair. lol. I quite like it that way. 🙂

I love Journeyman, but last night’s episode was my least favorite so far. Don’t scare me, SB…. they had better not cancel it.

I couldn’t agree w/ you more re: Big Bang Theory. After seeing the pilot, & the fact that I’ve got far too many shows to keep up w/, I decided not to follow the show. Mostly because I thought the pilot was horrendous.

But to my surprise, a lot of ppl were raving about how good the show was, so I thought that I’d give it another shot yesterday. Despite the fact that Sara Gilbert had a scene w/ Johnny Galecki, I still couldn’t get into it. The laugh track bugged the hell outta me and the laughs just seemed forced.

The reason that the HIMYM laugh track isn’t annoying is because it’s real laughter recorded from people watching the show on tape. Shows that have the fake laughter are really annoying. I also notice that it seems like the fake laughter has gotten more annoying over time. If you watch reruns of old ’80s sitcoms with fake laughter, it wasn’t as obnoxious back then.

Journeyman was good. But was it seriously necessary for him to lie to his wife? I hate when TV characters do dumb things like that. There were definately some good moments though with both Katie (when she sees how wrapped up he is and decides not to face him about Olivia) and Olivia (I hadn’t really thought about what her reaction would be to Dan’s marriage: she would think of Kate as Jack’s girlfriend).

I gave Big Bang a try last night because I had read Sara Gilbert was going to be on. I sat through the whole thing and she was only in it for like 20 seconds! I felt tricked.

I didn’t think last night’s Big Bang was as funny as last week’s episode. I agree that the laugh track is super annoying. It’s like they’re using the “big raucous belly laugh” track on every joke, rather than on two or three punchlines. It’s like someone programmed it wrong or something. Weird.

I just saw the depressing news that Journeyman might already be in trouble. This is the only new show I started watching this season. If it gets cancelled, it will be the most disappointing year in tv for me. (I want my iTunes episodes back!)
