SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Podcast: Top 18 Perform

June 19, 2008 by

Last night the top 18 dancers took the stage during the second round of competition on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. We were treated to some jazz, hip hop, contemporary and even a little krumping…because really, Wednesday just isn’t Wednesday without a little krump. Am I right?

And SYTYCD isn’t SYTYCD without a little TV Talk podcast. This week Ducky and I, along with our special guests Jess & Murph, break down each of the routines in a way that only we can…with utter honesty and complete foolishness. We’ve got it covered from Mary’s jaw-dropping hideous style to Nigel’s crotch grabbing antics to Mia Michael’s fantastical vocabulary. Oh and yeah, we talk about the dancers too. There’s a lot to chit and chat about because clearly we weren’t watching the same show as the judges last night.

So check out our TV Talk Podcast: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Edition…it’s banoodles!

One of my favorite podcasts from you guys. The more people, the more craziness, the more fun.

All I have to say is WTF was up with Mary’s outfit? Was she trying to look like a cheap hooker?

Clearly. It was so wrong. The hair, the outfit, the orange skin. Mary, Mary, Mary.

I agree with you guys onthe top three all the way. I thought the judges gave up on all their kiss assyness from week one and decided this was bitchy week. I don’t know if that was because Mia was there and they knew she was going to cut loose so they just decided to not be nice to anyone – because they really weren’t. Anytime they said something nice it was stuck in there with a “you smile too much” or “spagetti arms’ BS. And yet, nobody said anything about Mary’s getup? Go figure.

Unlike the judges, I was disappointed with a lot of the choreography this week. Maybe all these dancers don’t have the potential they showed during the auditions, but last night was a snooze. Argentine Tango? Viennese Waltz? The slowest, lamest crump anyone has ever seen? And who does wardrobe for this show? Not only did Mary Murphy look like a character from the Flintstones, all the dancers were dressed with feathers on their backsides, or something that looks like I could have made it with a nice bedsheet and a pair of scissors.

And Mia Michaels should stop projecting what she would have instructed the dancers to do with the choreography, and critique what they did do. Granted, it’s a fine, fine line, but often times she went more with attacking the dancers than the choreography. Yes, some of the dancers could have “hit it harder” as they often said, but maybe the routine could have been better. It was just appalling to hear every single judge stroke every single choreographer’s ego. Yes…we get it…they’re all amazing and talented. We knew that already.

Finally–can you tell I wasn’t a fan of last night’s show?–it is so clear which dancers are the judges’ favorites and which dancers they want to go through. Will is good but he doesn’t leave me (or the friends I watch with) breathless. Kherington and Twitch are adorable (my favorites), but could Nigel, for one week, not pontificate about how beautiful Kherington is? I mean, she is…but it’s getting kind of creepy. And Nigel’s animated, “this is what the dance should look like”? Yikes. Bad, just bad.

I’m too big of a fan not to watch this entire season, but I am disappointed with this season thus far. Hopefully things pick up!
