CASTLE just went through a massive shake-up, but I have to admit, the title of the next episode (“PhDead”) is currently cracking me up.

No, it doesn’t help the fracture in Castle and Beckett’s relationship. And the title does refer to the case of the week — a frat member is killed, so Castle goes undercover as a professor. But on the bright side, Castle and Beckett seem to be making some progress?

Check out some photos from “PhDead”…

CASTLE - "PhDead" - When the body of a local college fraternity student is found gruesomely murdered, Castle has to go undercover as a professor in order to gain access to the victim's world. However, he and Beckett soon discover that behind the fun and games of college are some darker secrets the university wants to keep hidden. "PhDead" will air on MONDAY, OCTOBER 5 (10:01-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Mitchell Haaseth) MOLLY QUINN

CASTLE airs Mondays 10 PM on ABC.

Monday night’s television was all about one thing for me: THE X-FILES trailer. (Sorry, every scripted full-length show.)

And with us getting into week 2 of TV, that also means I’m already behind on some shows (sorry, CBS, I promise I’ll catch up on SCORPION and BIG BANG today). But some big things went down, so let’s talk about last night’s TV… Read more

TV is officially back! Have you missed it? Or is your DVR already overwhelmed? (I’m feeling falsely confident right now, because I managed to watch all but one of my Monday shows….this won’t last long.)

In the action packed season premiere, Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett's career change, when a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events. There are two sides to every story, and this unique two-parter will explore the same story from each of their perspectives, first from Castle's side as he searches for Beckett in the exciting Season 8 premiere, "XY." CASTLE’s Toks Olagundoye: Hayley ‘Doesn’t Let Things Get in Her Way’

One of CASTLE’s biggest — on-screen — changes this season is the addition of Hayley, a private investigator who first interacts with Castle and co. when Beckett goes missing in the season 8 premiere, “XY.”

As I said in my preview of the hour, bringing a new character into an already established show can be a tough challenge, but Hayley instantly fits in. The writers — and her portrayer, Toks Olagundoye — don’t try to echo any character that is already on the canvas. Instead, it just feels like a delightful new figure to explore…which will also allow for our returning favorites to have new energy to bounce off of. (And though she will be sharing some screentime with Castle, as the showrunners said previously, she is not his love interest.)

I spoke with Olagundoye about joining the series, embracing Hayley’s sass, the special relationship between Hayley/Alexis, and more…

CASTLE is undergoing a good number of changes when the show returns on September 21st.

On-screen, THE NEIGHBORS’ Toks Olagundoye has joined the ABC drama as Hayley, a security specialist; meanwhile, Penny Johnson Jerald (Gates) is off the show, and Beckett is the new captain.

Off-screen, there are some changes at play, too. Season 7 showrunner David Amann has left, as have CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe and executive producer Terri Edda Miller. Long-time CASTLE writer Terence Paul Winter is now running the series with former CASTLE writer (and recent THE FOLLOWING co-showrunner) Alexi Hawley.

And season 8 is going to be a big one for the show.

“It’s going to be a great year…we have a delightful launch, these wonderful tentpoles where things are changing and evolving,” Winter shared. “And for the whole season, we’re telling a wonderful story from beginning to end that will further the love story of Castle and Beckett.”

I spoke with Winter and Hawley about taking over showrunner responsibilities, what’s in store this season, and more…

CASTLE’s eighth season is shaking things up — in addition to Beckett taking on a new job, there are some new faces coming aboard.

But there’s still more drama to come: ABC has teased that “a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events.” And what unfolds is a story that is being dubbed a “unique two-parter,” which “will explore the same story from each of their perspectives, first from Castle’s side as he searches for Beckett,” in the episode, “XY.”

Check out a few photos from the CASTLE season 8 premiere…

THE O.C.’s Kelly Rowan (who played Kirsten Cohen on the Fox drama) will guest star on an upcoming episode of CASTLE, a rep for the show has confirmed.

Rowan will play Carla Feller, the dean of a prestigious university. The school gets involved in the CASTLE universe after one of its students has an untimely death.

CASTLE season 8 has already lined up an impressive slate of guest stars: Adam Baldwin and Jack Coleman have booked return trips to the ABC drama, while Ann Cusack will appear in an episode, and Sunkrish Bala has signed on to recur.

EW.com was first to report Rowan’s casting.

Jack Coleman is going to have a busy, busy fall.

In addition to reprising his role of HRG on NBC’s HEROES REBORN, Coleman will also pop back up on ABC’s CASTLE as Senator Bracken — the man Beckett put away for his role in her mother’s murder — for a mysterious early season guest spot.

“He is a link to a deep dark story that is about to unveil itself,” Coleman teased to reporters after the HEROES REBORN TCA panel. “And he is not in a great place, when we revisit Senator Bracken. He’s a long way from the smug guy in the nice suit.”

And, naturally, his story is tied to Beckett’s once again.

CASTLE is recruiting another familiar guest star for a return: Adam Baldwin.

Baldwin — who first appeared in season 4’s “Headhunters” as Detective Slaughter — will return early in the show’s upcoming eighth season. And though it’s taken a few years to happen, after Baldwin filmed his first guest spot, he shared he was open to coming back.

And he isn’t the only familiar face returning under slightly mysterious circumstances: Jack Coleman has also booked a return visit to the ABC drama.

EW.com was first to report Baldwin’s return.

CASTLE: Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter Preview Beckett’s Career Path

CASTLE season 8 will be making some changes to the established team dynamic.

While the season 7 finale had Beckett’s career options up in the air, new co-showrunner Alexi Hawley confirmed that Beckett will indeed be getting promoted when the ABC drama returns this fall.

“At the end of the day, she’s become the captain,” Hawley teased. “But she’s going to be a much more hands-on captain than we’ve seen. She’s still going to be involved in solving cases. What’s great is it changes her relationship with the boys…she’s their boss now. There’s some fun to be had there. We just thought it was a great way to shake things up. Going into season 8 of a show, you need to be able to do that.”

With Beckett’s promotion, she will fill the space that was once occupied by Captain Gates. And while Penny Johnson Jerald (Gates) is off the show as a series regular, Hawley and co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter indicated they’d be open to her returning for a guest spot if the timing could be worked out.

CASTLE Adds Sunkrish Bala in Recurring Role

CASTLE has added another new face to season 8.

A little over a week after Toks Olagundoye joined the ABC drama as a new series regular, a rep has confirmed that Sunkrish Bala (NOTES FROM THE UNDERBELLY, THE WALKING DEAD) will recur next season.

According to EW.com, Bala will play Vikram Singh, “a high-strung tech analyst with a complicated past.” (Update: A rep has confirmed Bala will make his CASTLE debut in the season 8 premiere.)

CASTLE season 8 has already undergone a sizable shift. Former series regular Penny Johnson Jerald (Gates) announced in late May she had been let go; season 7 showrunner David Amann exited (as did CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe and executive producer Terri Edda Miller), while longtime CASTLE writer Terence Paul Winter and THE FOLLOWING showrunner/former CASTLE writer Alexi Hawley were tapped to run season 8. (CASTLE leading lady, Stana Katic, however, did sign on to stay with the series post-renewal.)

CASTLE is adding to its cast: THE NEIGHBORS’ Toks Olagundoye has been added as a season 8 series regular, a rep for the show has confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hayley is “a quick-witted, free-spirited former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and isn’t afraid to cross lines to get things done.”

This is just the latest change to hit CASTLE: Penny Johnson Jerald (Gates) announced in late May she had been let go; and behind-the-scenes, season 7 showrunner David Amann exited (as did CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe, and executive producer Terri Edda Miller), while longtime CASTLE writer Terence Paul Winter and THE FOLLOWING showrunner/former CASTLE writer Alexi Hawley were tapped to run season 8.

What do you think of Olagundoye’s addition?
