Students returned to school over the past few weeks, but odds are good they didn’t get a welcome as cool as the one SUPERNATURAL stars Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) had for their new lot mates.

While a good number of shows currently film in Vancouver, SUPERNATURAL has been the only television show to regularly shoot at its studio for the past decade — but that changed with this current season.

To welcome the casts of CW’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and Fox’s LUCIFER to the studio, Ackles and Padalecki had a hilarious “Welcome Freshman Class” banner made, and posed this week with the new kids on the block.

Many, many, many shows will be debuting (and returning) in the next couple of months, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg for upcoming shows this season.

Case in point? Fox’s LUCIFER, which won’t debut until early 2016. (And it’s getting a plum post-X-FILES slot.)

The series follows an earth-bound Lucifer, who is currently residing in Los Angeles…where he owns a nightclub. (The show is loosely based off the DC comic character, who was launched in from THE SANDMAN comic and its spinoff, LUCIFER.) But when a person is murdered outside his club, Lucifer feels something and opts to help the LAPD solve the case.

But just because Lucifer is doing something “right,” don’t expect him to be kind. LUCIFER star Tom Ellis spoke with reporters about getting to play bad, what Lucifer thinks of humans, and more…

LUCIFER Showrunner Joe Henderson on Joining the Series

LUCIFER is the latest DC Comics character — from THE SANDMAN comic and its spinoff, LUCIFER — to be adapted for television. (And LUCIFER is getting a prime slot on the schedule: the series will air Mondays on Fox in early 2016, paired with THE X-FILES’ return.)

But unlike the other DC shows currently on television, LUCIFER is focused on, well, a villain. And though the Devil is on Earth in LUCIFER (having abandoned Hell for Los Angeles), on paper, he’s a more complicated character to translate to network television than many others.

And for new LUCIFER showrunner Joe Henderson — who joined the show, officially, after the pilot was completed — he’s now tasked with setting the course the show takes.

“It’s a rare situation,” Henderson told reporters at Comic-Con.  “I loved the pilot, so my whole challenge was wrapping my brain around what worked so well about it, and taking a bit of ownership about the questions of where [the show goes]. Because I also read the comic…before even getting the job. So I knew the character, I loved the character. I loved this version of the character, who is very similar to both, but very much his own [being].”

Len Wiseman has spent much of his career in the movie world, but more recently, his fingerprints could be felt over TV.

After co-creating the Fox drama, SLEEPY HOLLOW (and directing that impressive pilot), Wiseman has stayed hands-on with the show, including directing some key scenes during the show’s run, thus far.

But Wiseman’s schedule is getting even more crowded. In addition to adding another show to his plate (the new midseason series, LUCIFER, whose pilot Wiseman also directed), he’ll also be busy with the newest UNDERWORLD film that’s set to film soon.

So will Wiseman be able to direct anything new for either SLEEPY HOLLOW or LUCIFER in the foreseeable future? He spoke with reporters about that at Comic-Con…

With no X FACTOR or UTOPIA in sight, Fox is sans any huge reality blocks for the start of the upcoming season.

That also means that aside from the Sunday lineup — which is staying untouched — only GOTHAM, EMPIRE, and BONES are remaining in the same spots they occupied for the 2014-2015 season. (And NEW GIRL is off the schedule until January.)
