THE CARRIE DIARIES’ Maggie has spiraled many times in the show’s relatively short run, but it seems, for now, she’s trying to make healthier life choices.

I sat down with Katie Findlay (Maggie) on the show’s New York set to find out how Maggie will be handling things over the next batch of episodes, plus where Maggie’s relationship with Sebastian stands…

THE CARRIE DIARIES: AnnaSophia Robb and Amy B. Harris on Carrie’s Work and Home Struggles

THE CARRIE DIARIES will put Carrie in awkward positions at home and at work in tonight’s brand new episode, “Borderline,” as Carrie struggles with meeting her father’s girlfriend’s trouble-making son and a difficult “Interview” assignment.

“I think it’s interesting when people are dating who have kids, because you can really like each other, but your kids actually have to like each other, [too,]” THE CARRIE DIARIES showrunner Amy B. Harris told me earlier this week on the show’s New York set. “And that story was stimulated [because] I had been set up with someone [in the past] and it was a family thing, it was very casual, it was just, ‘If you guys like each other, great.’ And he seemed nice enough, but his kid was a total asshole, and everyone was like, ‘No, that can’t happen.’ So that’s a little bit of what we’re going to be managing: how Carrie and Dorrit are going to be getting along with this child. It’s going to be harder for them, because I do think as you’re married with kids, who you date isn’t just about you anymore, it’s about how your family is going to possibly blend. But I do think Carrie is more open to the idea of her father dating now.”

The new, maturer Carrie is also pressing to have more responsibilities at her “Interview” internship, but Harris acknowledged the path for her writing career won’t be that simple.

The CW’s description of the premiere: “After Carrie’s (AnnaSophia Robb) boyfriend Sebastian (Austin Butler) and best friend Maggie (Katie Findlay) betrayed her last season, Carrie is determined to make the most of her summer, living with Walt (Brendan Dooling) in Manhattan – and all the grit and glamour it has to offer – even agreeing to a night on the town with Donna LaDonna (Chloe Bridges). But when Donna shows up with Sebastian, Carrie decides to go out on her own, and by a series of surprising events meets one of the greatest loves of her life, Samantha Jones (Lindsey Gort). Back in Castlebury, Mouse (Ellen Wong) shuts out Maggie when she sees her working at the country club, and Dorrit (Stefania Owen) has her own problems to contend with when Tom (Matt Letscher) finds out about her boyfriend Miller (guest star Evan Crooks).”

THE CARRIE DIARIES is back tonight!

Last season, viewers got to experience some of Carrie Bradshaw’s important firsts, and tonight’s second season premiere brings in arguably the most important first to date: her first meeting with future BFF Samantha Jones. (Played by Kim Catrell on SEX AND THE CITY and by Lindsey Gort in THE CARRIE DIARIES.)

To get some scoop on what’s going down, I spoke with THE CARRIE DIARIES boss Amy B. Harris about casting the pivotal role of Samantha, how the relationship between Samantha and Carrie will develop here, what’s to come in season 2, and more…

THE CARRIE DIARIES Season 2 First Look: Check Out Lindsey Gort as Samantha Jones!

Comments Off on THE CARRIE DIARIES Season 2 First Look: Check Out Lindsey Gort as Samantha Jones!

When THE CARRIE DIARIES returns for its second season, Carrie Bradshaw will interact with a person who is very well known to SEX AND THE CITY fans: Samantha Jones!

“In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on SEX AND THE CITY, we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones,” THE CARRIE DIARIES creator Amy B. Harris said in a statement. “Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part. Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones.”

Carrie will meet TCD-era Samantha through a “surprising connection,” and the young Miss Jones is described as “a ballsy, beautiful and sexy young woman from the panhandle of Florida who has made her way — and already a name for herself — in the rock ’n’ roll scene of 1980s NYC.”

And while season 2 of THE CARRIE DIARIES won’t kick off until October 25th on The CW, we have your first look at Gort as Samantha…

THE CARRIE DIARIES: Amy B. Harris on Carrie’s New Love, the Scope of Season 1

Comments Off on THE CARRIE DIARIES: Amy B. Harris on Carrie’s New Love, the Scope of Season 1

Carrie and Sebastian have been off-on for THE CARRIE DIARIES’ run so far, but things change in tonight’s brand new episode when a new guy catches her eye. And since one of Carrie’s most infamous plots from HBO’s SEX AND THE CITY was the triangle she had with Big and Aidan, I asked THE CARRIE DIARIES showrunner Amy B. Harris during a recent Q&A with reporters if fans should purposely be making that parallel with Carrie, Sebastian, and her new guy, George.

“I had not thought of it as that, but [George]’s definitely a more relaxed…energy than Sebastian,” Harris said. “And I like that about him. For me, it was fun to bring in a part of Manhattan we hadn’t seen. One was…restaurants and clubs, and two was a fashion shoot and three was a performance art piece and [four was] a Halloween party. So seeing all these different sides of Manhattan, downtown Manhattan, the art scene, the fashion world, this was sort of the way of bringing in the Upper East Side socialite world which was so big in the 80s, but was its own pocket. Nowadays, with the GOSSIP GIRL world, it’s all merged — uptown, downtown — but in the 80s, it was an uptown experience to have those kind of people.”

And with the season finale less than two months away, the writers will be cramming a whole lot of story into the show’s first year.

THE CARRIE DIARIES: Freema Agyeman Teases ‘Read Before Use,’ Finding Out Carrie’s Secret, and More

Carrie Bradshaw’s introduction to New York takes a very interesting turn when Larissa brings her young protégé to an, um, unusual art club in Monday’s brand new episode of THE CARRIE DIARIES.

“Every time I get a new script, I open pages with nervous anticipation and excitement, thinking, ‘Where is Larissa going to be, what is she going to be doing?'” Freema Agyeman (Larissa) told me. “Because it’s always got to be something that contrasts Carrie’s home life and shocks and entertains and opens [Carrie’s] eyes to a whole new existence…It happens to be that [particular] backdrop in episode three.”

Because of the nature of the scene (and the storyline), the cast had a bit of fun with the prep and filming of the hour.

THE CARRIE DIARIES: Freema Agyeman on Seeing Larissa at Work, Fan Reaction, and More

January 21, 2013 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Carrie Diaries

When viewers were introduced to THE CARRIE DIARIES’ Larissa in last week’s series premiere, they saw her partying (and thieving) side. But in tonight’s brand new episode, Carrie’s new mentor is shown in her work environment.

“Larissa is a fashion editor, and she is this party girl, and she is very much into the arts scene, and each time Carrie comes to New York to [meet] with her, it’s always equally fun and new for Carrie, but it can depend on which environment that is,” THE CARRIE DIARIES star  Freema Agyeman (Larissa) told me. “So in Monday’s episode, we see Larissa at work, and we didn’t in the pilot. We see her out and about, we see her out at night, but now Carrie gets to see her at work. And at Interview magazine, which is Carrie’s favorite fashion magazine. Again, she’s wide-eyed and going into this world she couldn’t envision being a part of. And we went all out, really. It’s a fashion shoot that consists of animals and all sorts. It’s as dream-like as Carrie could imagine.”

Comments Off on THE CARRIE DIARIES: Amy B. Harris on Carrie’s History, Her New Romances, and More

Nearly nine years after SEX AND THE CITY went off the air, Carrie Bradshaw once again joins the television landscape with the premiere of THE CARRIE DIARIES. (Airing Mondays at 8 PM on The CW.)

This time around, Carrie is in high school, which means viewers will get to experience her discovering Manhattan for the first time, falling in love, making new friends, and mourning the death of her mother, as she and her father and sister adjust to their new live. (And yes, that last one doesn’t exactly line up with the HBO series, where Carrie said her father abandoned the family. However, it does match up with what “The Carrie Diaries” books say.)

I spoke with THE CARRIE DIARIES executive producer Amy B. Harris (who was also a writer on SEX AND THE CITY), about this “new” Carrie, her romances, having an endpoint, and more…
