EMMY Awards LIVE Blog

Come celebrate The 60th Annual Emmy Awards tonight with GiveMeMyRemote.com as we LIVE blog TV’s biggest night. Share your thoughts on the big winners and who was robbed!

And with that I’m out.  Thank you all for sticking with me through this mostly horrendous evening.  Sorry for the typos and such…I’ll try to fix it all up later, after my brain stars functioning again.

Congrats to all the winners!!  Now it’s time to put last year behind us…it’s time for the 2008-2009 TV season.  See you in the morning!

10:55pm: Tom Selleck is presenting the final award of the night.

Outstanding Drama Series: MAD MEN

YES!!  YES!!  YES!!  YES!! YES!!  YES!!

10:52pm:  We are nearing the end…can I get an AMEN!!  Mary Tyler Moore is clearly the role model for the girls of the new 90210. Her arms are really distracting.  But oooohhh…Betty White. Love her!  Together they are giving away the best comedy award.  Only one name will make me happy, and you know what is it.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Comedy Series, 30 ROCK

…that wasn’t it.  But you can’t be disappointed that a show as smart as 30 ROCK won.  It really deserved it.

10:34pm: Jimmy Kimmel is giving away the award for best reality host.  Clearly I’m not in the mood for any of these people.  I suppose Heidi is the least offensive. But you gotta give Jimmy a laugh for his presentation. That was actually kind of funny.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Reality Show Host: Jeff Probst, SURVIVOR

Glad that Jeff acknowledged that the hosts really sucked tonight.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Tina Fey, 30 ROCK

AWARD TIME!!

4th Emmy win for Tina Fey.  We love you.  You are a bright spot in an otherwise horrible night.  I think this pretty much guarantees 30 ROCK the win for Best Comedy.

10:37pm: Keifer Sutherland is cutting to the award so the winner has more time to talk.  If only others were that considerate.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama: Bryan Cranston, BREAKING BAD

Huh?  What? I think my brain just broke. I have no idea what’s going on tonight.  I’m beyond dumbfounded.

[Is it rude to pour myself a glass of wine during the In Memoriam?]

10:27: And the antics continue.  Maybe someone should turn on the mics before they bring the presenters out there.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama: Glenn Close, DAMAGES

…yeah, told ya she’d be back. Great speech though…has she had experience accepting awards in the past?

10:25pm:  Candice is giving out the acting award I care most about tonight.  I’m nervous…why?

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Alec Baldwin, 30 ROCK

…at least it wasn’t Charlie Sheen.  I heart you Steve Carell and Lee Pace!

10:22pm: Glenn Close takes the stage. Something tells me this won’t be the only time we see her on stage tonight.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie:  Paul Giamatti, JOHN ADAMS

This guy is a brilliant actor, so kudos.  And doesn’t he have the best voice?!

10:12pm: Kate Walsh and Wayne Brady.  Really ?  Wayne Brady?  Whoa…It just occurred to me that there hasn’t been a MAD MEN award handed out tonight. Has there?

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series: Greg Yaitanes, HOUSE

I’m not seeing Hugh Laurie in the audience.  Maybe he really was “sick”.

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series: Matthew Weiner, MAD MEN

And there is it…the first big MAD MEN award of the night.  And my first chance to see John Hamm. Don Draper I may despise you but you sure are pretty.

10:08pm: DAMN YOU Howie Mandel.  I can’t tell you how much I was looking forward to Kristin Chenoweth & Neil Patrick Harris’ bit…it was cut because Howie Mandel sucks ass.  I forever boycott Howie Mandel.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Miniseries: MR. WARMTH – THE DON RICKLES PROJECT

How about we cut Don Rickles speech, he’s already had a lot of stage time tonight.  I want to see NPH and Cheno.

10:01pm: Sally Field is on stage giving away an award.  I need a bathroom break so I hope it’s a boring away.  Oh Mini-Series?  Yes…be right back.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Miniseries: JOHN ADAMS

Forrest Gump and Momma Gump reunited on stage.

9:56pm: Kathy Griffin and Don Rickles take the stage. The censors put their fingers on the buzzer just in case.  Yes! Kathy Griffin just demanded that the audience stand. Damn Don Rickles still has it.  Maybe he can host next year.  (Oh shot of Bryan Fuller and his partner in the audience…hi boys).  These two are great, and Kathy was more well behaved that I hoped she would be.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Reality Show: THE AMAZING RACE

The 6th consecutive win.  Maybe they should just bag this category.  And it’s so nice to see Phil on stage….he should have been their as a nominee.  Then again, I’m glad he wasn’t part of the Emmy host s%#t show.

9:54pm: Sandra Oh and Patrick Dempsey look all kinds of pretty.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie: Dame Eileen Atkin, CRANFORD (MASTERPIECE)  [Just saw the promo for the GREY’S ANATOMY season premiere.  I’ve seen it and I’m not going to say much other than ‘shame on you ABC promo department.’]

9:45pm: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.  They don’t have to say anything.  Just stand there and be funny.  But of course they are funny.  And any men that can make prunes funny…well, they are just that good.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Directing for a Mini-Series, Movie or Dramatic Special: Jay Roach, RECOUNT

Wow!  I thought JOHN ADAMS was going to be sweeping.  Nice job, Jay Roach…where do I know Jay Roach from.  Must IMDB him later. Oh he’s married to Susanna Hoffs…”Close your eyes, give me your hand – darlin'”

Outstanding Writing for a Mini-Series, Movie or Dramatic Special: Kirk Ellis, JOHN ADAMS

Too bad he didn’t get anytime to talk before he was cut off.  They let Howie go on forever but they cut off a guy who actually wins. This is an awards show.  Have I used the word disaster yet tonight?

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series: Tom Wilkinson, JOHN ADAMS

I love Tom Wilkinson, but I’m damn glad he wasn’t there – one less speech.

[WOW…just checked the numbers for tonight.  Welcome to all the people stopping by GiveMeMyRemote.com for the first time. Oh and all you regular readers…yeah, you’re ok too 🙂 Thanks!]

9:35pm: Did Christian Slater have some work done?  He’s had BoTox, right?  He’s no young chicken, but he doesn’t have one wrinkle. Impressive.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Made for TV Movie: RECOUNT.

Pretty good movie…minus Denis Leary’s horrible Boston accent. Bizarre, right?

9:31pm: THE WEST WING…this kills me.  With so many horrible, horrible shows on the air it makes me sad that a brilliant show like THE WEST WING are no more.  I need to buy the entire series on DVD.  I might not watch them for years, but they are so worthy of owning.

9:20pm:  Oh damn…I liked Lauren Conrad’s Emmy dress better than the won made my Christian Soriano.  Sorry, Christian’s dress looked like a big pink potato sack.  But the hotness that is David Boreanaz can’t be denied.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Director for a Comedy Series – Barry Sonnenfeld for the PUSHING DAISIES “Pie-lette”

YES!  YES! YES! Why am I getting teary?  Yay! PUSHING DAISIES!!  And how about the cuteness that is Kristin Chenoweth & Lee Pace!!

Outstanding Writer for a Comedy Series – Tina Fey, 30 ROCK

OH NERD!! Fantastic!!  So happy to see Tina up there!!

9:13pm: Really, we needed 3 hours of people yelling “Sock it to me?”.  Worst.Emmys.Ever! A little note to the producers – the demo watching this show is too young to remember LAUGH IN. What in good heavens is going on?  I want to jump off a bridge.  DIZASSTER!!

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series – THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART

FTW!!  Jon Stewart thanks the folks of LAUGH IN.  I thank them for leaving the stage.

9:07pm: Alec Baldwin looks really old with his glasses.  I love Jack Donaghy but Alex Baldwin is kind of a douche.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie – Laura Linney, JOHN ADAMS.

9:02pm: Josh Groban is tackling the best TV themes of all time.  Kind of fun. Kind of creepy. Groban singing the theme to COPS and then rapping to THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR?  Who thought this was going to be a good idea?

Ed McMahon is there…I hope he got paid for that 5 seconds of work.  He needs the money.

Whoa, whoa, whoa…while my cable was out the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama went to Zeliko Ivanek of DAMAGES?  Really?  Who does Michael Emerson need to **** get an Emmy for his work on LOST?!  Another robbery…someone call in some fake police.  Mariska Hargitay from the audience to make an arrest.

8:53pm: Had Rainn Wilson, Neil Patrick Harris or Kristin Chenoweth won tonight I probably wouldn’t be shooting death daggers at my screen.  It’s not The Smother Brothers fault. Why are they giving him an Emmy but not the other Smother Brother?  Weren’t they a team.  Scratch what I said about the daggers not being pointed at this guy.  Is he stroking on the stage?  Is there a Doctor in the house?! SHUT IT ‘SHIDA!!!!!

8:49pm: Probst and Mandell bring the Accountants on the stage. I’d rather watch the Accountants than these yahoos. The show is running long yet Howie Mandell keeps talking.  I’ll take DEAL (as long as the deal includes offing Howie Mandell).

8:44pm: My favorite actress ever, Jennifer Love Hewitt, takes the stage.  Hayden Paneittiere is damn sexy.  I see what Milo sees in her…now if she were only 10 years old.

Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program: THE COLBERT REPORT

YAY!!!

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series – Dianne Weist, IN TREATMENT.

8:42pm: Conan O’Brien takes an awesome swipe at Katherine Heigl.  I couldn’t love him more. More people should take swipes at Katherine Heigl.

AWARD TIME!!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series – Dianne Weist, IN TREATMENT.

Really?  I’m glad I didn’t bet my first born on my Emmy picks.  I’m all kinds of wrong tonight.

8:37pm: Commercial break.  And my I just take this moment to say that Kristin Chenoweth was robbed.  And that I can’t imagine that anyone won their Emmy pool.  Did people really think Jean Smart was going to win.  Don’t get me wrong, she’s fab in every way, but really?

So I think the cable and internet back are here to stay.  Cross your fingers, people.  Also cross your fingers that the hosts don’t come back to the stage.

8:34pm: My TV and cable went out and keeps going out.  ARGH!!  But thankfully it came back just as Ricky Gervais took the stage.  His bit with Steve Carell is an early favorite for the best moment of the night.

AWARD TIME!!

Ugh, just went out for a second.  What award is this? Directing for an awards show or something?  Yeah, who cares?!

8:11pm: That happy feeling I had when Tina and Amy took the stage is now gone.  The Pives is great, but this was so Neil Patrick Harris or Rainn Wilson’s year.

8:09pm: Wondering if the 5 hosts could not come back and we could just have Tina Fey and Amy Poeher all night.

AWARD TIME!!

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy goes to…Jeremy Piven of ENTOURAGE!

8:08pm: William Shatner is on stage…this is just getting worse.  But finally Heidi is out of that suit and looking hot!

8:04pm: The five hosts of the night: Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst, Heidi Klum, Ryan Seacrest, and Tom Bergeron take the stage.  It’s 5 minutes in and I’m already hating them. This is a disaster.

8:02pm: Ms. Oprah has taken the stage. Blah, blah, blah…let’s get on to the awards.

8:00pm: And we’re off!!  Welcome to the Emmys. Tonight’s opening was kind of adorable.  Some of our favorite TV character recited some of our favorite lines from TV.  That’s going to be a big hit on YouTube in the morning.

  8. karen on September 21st, 2008 8:12 pm

That was the worst opening evah! Rainn and NPH were robbed.

  9. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 8:14 pm

  10. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:14 pm

    I agree, Karen and Kath.

  11. karen on September 21st, 2008 8:16 pm

Thanks for posting that for us westcoasters, Sara!

  17. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:24 pm

How did Kristen Chenoweth not win? First overlooking Neil and Rainn, now Kristen! It’s going to be a long night…

  18. Philiana Ng on September 21st, 2008 8:24 pm

I’m so disappointed already with the winner of Supporting Actor in Comedy. 🙁 Thought NPH had it.

  19. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:26 pm

heidi, while smoking hot, is kiling me…

  20. karen (KATHS SISTER) on September 21st, 2008 8:26 pm

HEY GMMR FANS BAD NEWS KATH’S HAS LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING HER TV! KATH HAS PUT ALOT OF WORK INTO PREPARING TO COVER THE EMMYS….HOPEFULLY SHE GET THE POWER BACK SOON!!!!

  21. Billiam on September 21st, 2008 8:26 pm

Yep. Worst beginning ever. I guess I was spoiled by Conan a couple years ago, with a great opening video and a great bit. This had a meh opening, a crappy Oprah speech (in which she repeated the same points, and admitted to controlling people’s minds by telling them what books to read so they don’t have to make their own decisions), and the most boring opening “bit” ever, which contained zero comedic value.
And seriously, let’s be done with Piven. He plays a one-dimensional character just fine, but there are much better actors who keep getting snubbed.

  22. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:28 pm

Oh NOOO! Hope she gets her power back soon!

  23. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:28 pm

hottest housewife? tonight it’s teri hatcher…that dress is gorgeous

  24. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 8:28 pm

Wow, I’m sorry Kath! I don’t even care if you post anything. I just want you to be able to watch the show.

  25. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:29 pm

    We miss you Kath!

  26. Elizabeth on September 21st, 2008 8:30 pm

Well at least they’ve gotten one right so far. Ivanek was amazing in Damages!! Just that accent alone, haha.

  27. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:31 pm

what?!?!?!?! i actually thought that having the best actor on lost nominated would be a shoo-in

next year, michael emerson, next year:)

  28. karen (KATHS SISTER) on September 21st, 2008 8:31 pm

    Ricky Gervaise makes me laugh!

  29. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:32 pm

  31. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:35 pm

the last 5 minutes have been the most entertaining…will anything top this?

  32. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:35 pm

Bored again. Wonder if I have popcorn?

  33. karen (KATHS SISTER) on September 21st, 2008 8:36 pm

They should have nominations during this years Emmy’s for who should host next year!

  34. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:37 pm

    That’s a good idea Karen!

  35. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:38 pm

    karen, i concur!

  36. Amanda on September 21st, 2008 8:38 pm

Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell are hilarious together….Ricky should definitely guest star on The Office.

  37. Elizabeth on September 21st, 2008 8:40 pm

Here’s an idea: Why not get people who are actually known for being funny since the host (or hosts) are generally supposed to add some comedy to the show? If they’re so determined to have a group of people why not use actors/actresses from the supporting role in a comedy nominations?

  38. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:40 pm

Foreign exchange of regional managers! 🙂

  39. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 8:40 pm

I’m back…hopefully for good. That was scary. Thanks Karen for sending out the udpates. And can you please keep your screen name “Karen (Kath’s Sister)” – as your little sister that works for me. Ha ha

    Ricky Gervais rocks my world!

  40. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 8:40 pm

I can’t wait to see Steve and Ricky together!

    Ricky should host next year!

  41. Berivan on September 21st, 2008 8:40 pm

kristin chenoweth was totally robbed! oh, and how I love Ricky Gervais. He’s brilliant.

  42. Fran on September 21st, 2008 8:41 pm

anybody else notice the uncharacteristic roundness in eva longoria’s face tonight??? and since when does she pass up the chance to wear a skin-tight SMOKIN dress to an awards show? she’s gotta be preggers…. yes??

  43. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:42 pm

Man, Katie Holmes looks really tired and drawn in the Eli Stone preview. But YAY Eli Stone!

Ooooh yay Conan’s up! He should have hosted.

  44. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:43 pm

    Glad you’re back Kath!

    Dagnabbit! It was CHANDRA’S!!!

  47. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:44 pm

    noooooo!

  48. Parina on September 21st, 2008 8:45 pm

Haha. I think Steve Carell should automatically get any winner’s Emmy who isn’t there.

  49. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:45 pm

lol Colbert in his boxers 😀

  50. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:46 pm

  56. Farmwife on September 21st, 2008 8:51 pm

  57. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 8:51 pm

JJ – Wait as in Josh Jackson?!

  58. karen (Kath's sister) on September 21st, 2008 8:52 pm

Howie Mandel would be funnier if he had a curly black wig on with a surgical glove over his head!

  59. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 8:52 pm

    Oh…JJ Abrams. Still very exciting.

  60. Farmwife on September 21st, 2008 8:54 pm

Yeah, and remember the helium voice.

  61. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:55 pm

Wow, seeing Tommy Smothers makes me feel OOOLLLDDD.

  62. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 8:56 pm

Hah, when I read that you posted that they brought up “The Accountants” I thought you meant the accountants from The Office and thought, “well that sounds like fun”…but after thinking about it, I realized I was an idiot.

  63. Sus on September 21st, 2008 8:57 pm

    lol lemonade

  64. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 8:57 pm

oh, gmmr, if it had been josh typing would have been impossible.

    i heart pacey:)

  65. Bored at the Emmys on September 21st, 2008 9:01 pm

What? I think they have lists for people like you!

8:44pm: My favorite actress ever, Jennifer Love Hewitt, takes the stage. Hayden Paneittiere is damn sexy. I see what Milo sees in her…now if she were only 10 years old.

  66. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:02 pm

I would not have picked Josh Groban to do this (though I love his voice.) But Oh MY GOD.

  67. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:03 pm

I totally did the Friends clap with Josh Groban.

    That disturbs even me…

  68. karen (Kath's sister) on September 21st, 2008 9:04 pm

Josh Groban give me goosebumps everytime he sings. This is actually pretty entertaining.

  69. mg714 on September 21st, 2008 9:04 pm

Why is Josh Groban singing all those TV theme songs? This show just got stranger (if that’s possible) and not in a good way.

  70. Farmwife on September 21st, 2008 9:04 pm

    Josh Grobin–now I’m feeling queasy.

  71. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:04 pm

I STILL know all the words to Fresh Prince. 😀

    This is amazing.

  72. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:06 pm

    Fresh Prince ftw!

  73. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:06 pm

    That was creepy, Alec Baldwin.

  74. Parina on September 21st, 2008 9:07 pm

Wow. That Josh Groban bit was kind of odd.

  75. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:07 pm

Dang, I LOVE all of those actresses. I wish they all could have won.

  76. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 9:07 pm

    He sings Fresh Prince?! Niiice.

  77. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:09 pm

    Lauren Conrad?

I just died a little inside

  78. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:09 pm

Nice try, PC. Still keeping my Mac.

  79. Parina on September 21st, 2008 9:09 pm

UGH! Lauren Conrad?! Why oh why is she appearing at the Emmys?

  80. tracy on September 21st, 2008 9:10 pm

    i am detesting these hosts.
    detesting!!!!!

  81. Farmwife on September 21st, 2008 9:11 pm

That last note in his falsetto voice was a bit much.

  82. Angela on September 21st, 2008 9:11 pm

Loved how Laura Linney ended with a buuuurn, but Catherine Keener gave me goosebumps in “An American Crime”.

  83. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 9:13 pm

#65: Bored at the Emmys…that was sarcasm. Ha ha.

I love reading everyone’s comments during the commercial.

    This show blows!

  84. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:14 pm

    LOOOOOVEEE Laugh-In!

  85. Angela on September 21st, 2008 9:17 pm

Every time I see Lily Tomlin, I can’t get the image out of my head of those YouTube videos where she freaks out at Dustin Hoffman and David O. Russell during that Huckabees movie. This bit is almost as equally as painful.

  86. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:17 pm

    i like the laugh-in stuff:)

  87. Parina on September 21st, 2008 9:17 pm

The Emmys are so disjointed this year. Not even sure if disjointed is an actual word, but it is disjointed.

  88. Billiam on September 21st, 2008 9:18 pm

As soon as they started giving away awards for the “movie/miniseries” categories, I was done. And then I realized that reading everyone’s comments is more entertaining than the show.
And I so agree with #37 on choosing a host. My fantasy involves Conan O’Brien, Ricky Gervais, Steve Carrel, Stephen Colbert, and John Stewart each whacking one of the hosts over the head with a board (Mandel gets two whacks).

  89. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:18 pm

I like John Stewart. He’s funny, but it’s mostly because he was in The Faculty and I love that movie beyond all reason. It’s crazy.

  90. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:20 pm

Why the Eff did they stick David Boreanaz with Lauren Conrad?

  91. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:21 pm

YES! Finally! LOOOOOVE Tim Conway and Old Lady God!

  92. karen (Kath's sister) on September 21st, 2008 9:24 pm

OK Kath I’ll give you this….that Lee Pace is a cutie. He looks like a kid on Christmas morning!

  93. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:24 pm

    Kath, I’m 27 and I remember Laugh-In…granted, it was the re-runs…. 😉

  94. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:25 pm

Lee and Kristen look absolutely fabulous tonight!

  95. Angela on September 21st, 2008 9:26 pm

I have to say, the episode Tina Fey won for was the only episode of 30 Rock that I didn’t find all that funny.

  96. Spicy Curry on September 21st, 2008 9:29 pm

Why the heck is LC at the Emmy’s?
So glad that Colbert Report, The Daily Show, and Tina Fey won.

  97. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:30 pm

@Angela-In total agreeance. I’m thinking it should have gone to anybody else…or the Emmy voters should actually watch tv in order to learn what is funny

  98. mals gal on September 21st, 2008 9:32 pm

    I miss the West Wing:(

  99. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:33 pm

I really should rent the West Wing dvd’s. I’m sure I would love it.

  100. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 9:34 pm

I knew Tina would win but was hoping my boys Gene and Lee would win.

  101. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 9:35 pm

I love 30 ROCK but “Cooter” wasn’t the best episode.

And Karen – do you really question my taste in men? Lee Pace is so damn adorable.

  102. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:36 pm

    That was lame, Christina Applegate.

  103. karen (Kath's sister) on September 21st, 2008 9:37 pm

    C.Slater hasn’t really aged much

  104. Fran on September 21st, 2008 9:40 pm

david boreanaz either a. needs to learn to read or b. needs to lay off the downers before going on air

  105. Angela on September 21st, 2008 9:41 pm

@mals gal -A lot of these awards aren’t making sense. Makes me wonder if Two and a Half Men will take home the comedy award.

  106. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 9:43 pm

ANGELA!!! Don’t put that out in the universe!!

  107. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:44 pm

    Yay, Tom Wilkinson! 😀

    Angela…hush yo’ mouth. 😉

  108. Elizabeth on September 21st, 2008 9:45 pm

I know, Angela, a lot of them just don’t make sense! It’s like watching the Chinese get undeserved scores on the beam and vault exercises, or something. Or maybe it’s just b/c most of MY favs aren’t winning, haha.

  109. Jules on September 21st, 2008 9:45 pm

I’m with you on The West Wing DVDs. Someone I know owns them all. I have season one and I re-watch constantly. Makes me miss amazing TV…

  110. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:47 pm

I’ll have to get them from Netflix. No one I know has them. 😉

  111. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:49 pm

Dang, way to cut him off, Emmys.

  112. Angela on September 21st, 2008 9:51 pm

lol…Sorry, guys. I just feel sorry for all the people who should have won, but didn’t, and still have to sit through this boring awards show. They probably have to go to work early tomorrow too. We could really just turn this thing off any time, but they’re stuck.

  113. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:54 pm

    MASH MASH MASH MASH!!! 😀

Oddly enough, this is the 4th MASH reference for me today.

  114. karen (Kath's sister) on September 21st, 2008 9:56 pm

    I can’t wait for Grey’s next week!

  115. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:56 pm

Yaaayyyy love Eileen Atkins! (In case it’s not obvious, I love all the British folks. ;))

  116. bubblewrap on September 21st, 2008 9:56 pm

I’m so glad Cranford won something! That was such a wonderful mini-series

  117. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:56 pm

It almost looks like Kathy Griffin’s wearing camo.

  118. Sus on September 21st, 2008 9:57 pm

    Yeah, it was, bubblewrap 🙂

  119. Fran on September 21st, 2008 9:58 pm

Kath, can I assume the “bombshell” is not so bombshellish? Please?!

  126. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 10:06 pm

Why have Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski been asked present an award?

  127. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:06 pm

Man…I’m sorry I keep posting a thousand times more than others. :-/

I feel like I’m monopolizing or something.

  128. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:07 pm

Why have Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski been asked present an award?

Because any chance we get to see them together is amazing? 🙂

  129. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:08 pm

    Bwahahahahaha go NPH!

  130. Jaime on September 21st, 2008 10:10 pm

The highlight of my night: seeing the Pushing Daisies promo with shirtless Lee Pace.

  131. Vanfan14 on September 21st, 2008 10:13 pm

Not sure if you got this answer already, Kathie, but you know Jay Roach (possibly, haha) also because he did the Austin Power movies :o)

  132. Angela on September 21st, 2008 10:14 pm

Why do they go over the guest actor/actress awards from the Creative Arts Emmy’s. If they thought they were so important, they should be in the real show…

  133. Angela on September 21st, 2008 10:16 pm

Does Howie Mandel think that little patch of hair under his lip makes up for being so shockingly bald? It doesn’t, Howie Mandel. It makes you look like a bigger fool, which is pretty hard to accomplish.

  134. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:18 pm

Oooh, Keifer Sutherland’s still to come. I could listen to his voice forever. Phonebooth was great only because of his voice.

  135. natasha on September 21st, 2008 10:19 pm

What was with having the guest actor winners already on stage? No acceptance speech even. Weird.

  136. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 10:21 pm

#130 – Jamie – There is a good few minutes of Lee Pace shirtless and in his boxers in the season premiere. It didn’t suck. Not at all.

  137. Berivan on September 21st, 2008 10:22 pm

even in that 10 seconds, neil patrick harris was hilarious. i love jeremy piven but still, can’t believe they didn’t award him.

  138. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:26 pm

I love Candace Bergen but she looks kind of dumpy.

Well I got Alec Baldwin right but he’s not my own choice.

  139. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:28 pm

Again…love America but not her dress

Yay for Glenn Close but I love all of them.

  140. Angela on September 21st, 2008 10:29 pm

Not surprised about Alec Baldwin, but my heart goes out to Steve Carell. It’s sad The Office didn’t win any awards. I don’t know if they can pull out best comedy this year, but who knows with the way things are going?

  141. Spicy Curry on September 21st, 2008 10:30 pm

I knew Alec was going to win, but I really really wanted Steve to.

  142. Fran on September 21st, 2008 10:34 pm

WHERE WAS I WHEN BERNIE MAC DIED?

  143. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:39 pm

It was in August, Fran. I happened to be in Chicago when he died there.

  144. Spicy Curry on September 21st, 2008 10:43 pm

Aww, Tina! I loved that speech.

  145. Kate on September 21st, 2008 10:46 pm

That was actually funny…at least the “will be revealed after the commercial part”

  146. Angela on September 21st, 2008 10:46 pm

Yay, Tina Fey! I can’t believe they are dragging out this reality host thing. Only one of them is going to win, right? awwwkward!

  147. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:47 pm

Ugh. Can I go to bed yet?

  148. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:52 pm

  149. lemoñadé on September 21st, 2008 10:53 pm

Wait *do* they present together? What award?

  150. Spicy Curry on September 21st, 2008 10:53 pm

I’m getting nervous for the best comedy award. REALLY want The Office to win.

  151. J on September 21st, 2008 10:54 pm

is it really that bad on tv?! I refresh this page every 20 mins to see who has won and you guys are giving this vibe of that a horrible show it has been…
I am working right now in a dark office in Seattle, I wish I had a tv to see the tv stars…

  152. Jaime on September 21st, 2008 10:54 pm

Of course the award that they drag out is the one that’s getting the most press. *rolls eyes*

30 Rock just won. Not a big surprise, really. I just can’t believe The Office was completely shut out this year.

  153. mg714 on September 21st, 2008 10:55 pm

aside from the fact that many of my faves haven’t won (especially no wins for the office tonight), this is one of the worst awards shows I’ve seen in a long time, and that’s saying something!

  154. Angela on September 21st, 2008 10:55 pm

    “turkey burger economy” lol!

  155. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:55 pm

You know, no offense to anyone who likes 30 Rock but I’ve never watched because every preview I’ve ever seen looks stupid. Maybe they just have a horrible promo department.

  156. Spicy Curry on September 21st, 2008 10:57 pm

I love 30 Rock, but I love The Office more. I wish The Office would have won at least one Emmy.

  157. Sus on September 21st, 2008 10:57 pm

I guess I need to rent Mad Men. Everyone I know raves about it.

  158. J on September 21st, 2008 10:57 pm

mg: “this is one of the worst awards shows I’ve seen in a long time, and that’s saying something!”
    Really?! That bad?!
I guess I am happy to be working and making money instead of watching a horrible show…

  159. Give Me My Remote on September 21st, 2008 10:59 pm

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WATCHED ALONG WITH ME TONIGHT. Let’s hope next year’s Emmys don’t blow so hard!!

    ….and good night!

  160. Sus on September 21st, 2008 11:00 pm

    Goodnight everyone!

  161. Sara on September 21st, 2008 11:01 pm

Boo for no Office wins!! They were robbed.

  162. mg714 on September 21st, 2008 11:01 pm

J – the show just seemed so disjointed and kind of unorganized at times – the 5 host thing was a mess right from the beginning, but at least it ended on time!

  163. Angela on September 21st, 2008 11:02 pm

Not surprised that a show as smart as 30 Rock won either, but sad The Office got shut out. Of course, 30 Rock could possibly get canceled after this season like another certain former Fox show that was smart, won a lot of awards, and also got canceled.

  164. J on September 21st, 2008 11:03 pm

mg – thanks, I had no idea there were five hosts !??! That is not good at all !! Ohh well, I will now have to look at some pics…
good night all of you! Thanks for keeping me updated!

  165. Mandy on September 21st, 2008 11:03 pm

I fell asleep at the beginning and just woke up. Thanks for the recaps GMMR. Looks like I didn’t miss much. The Office won nada. Damn it! At least Mad Men won for best drama.

  166. Kimberlee on September 21st, 2008 11:08 pm

Totally disappointed. Very few bright spots and yes, The Office was ripped off. And one word for MTM – sleeves.

  167. Jules on September 21st, 2008 11:26 pm

OK I’m just watching it live PST and Amy and Tina were so hilarious. The five host thing is the worst thing ever…besides last year’s “in the round” thing…

  168. Randi on September 21st, 2008 11:28 pm

Darn this being on the west coast! Blerg, not happy about the winners. At least 30 Rock won a lot! Yay 30 Rock!

  169. Lisa (aka lmr) on September 22nd, 2008 8:00 am

That was the absolute worse ever. Only bright spot for me, well two actually, Mad Men and Tina Fey. Otherwise, it was just horrible.

  170. RJS on September 22nd, 2008 9:43 am

BREAKING BAD is an excellent, innovative, wild, funny show (a high school teacher who is dying of cancer starts making meth!) and he totally deserved the best actor win. I was amazed but so pleased for him and the show. Really, check it out!!!!

  171. Courtney on September 22nd, 2008 10:33 am

Terrible show, though the winners were good. Take a look at my review. I wanted to do a play by play like yours (kudos on that), but I had no laptop!

But wow, that was a terrible awards show.

That was the worst Emmy show I have ever seen. You don’t start out the show “without a bit” and expect to do well. The host is supposed to set the tone for the entire evening. And I suppose they did since everyone kept complaining that Howie Mandel took too much time and they didn’t get to do their bit! The only consolation to the whole evening was that it ended on time. Booooorrrrring. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, possible hosts for next year. Colbert and Stewart, another funny possibility. Anyone has to be wayyyy more entertaining than the five that were up there tonight. Anyone who writes comedy would be good.
I had hardly seen any of the shows/actors nominated so I only wanted to see Office/Lost winners. I really wish shows on pay cable (like HBO) didn’t qualify. Nearly everyone has FX, USA, AMC, etc, but many of us can’t afford HBO and Showtime to watch these great shows. Put the Emmy’s on their channel if hardly any network stars/shows are going to be in it!
There wasn’t even a stand out dress tonight. Oh well, enough complaining from me. Onto the new season of TV starting tonight!

  174. Toast with JAM on September 22nd, 2008 3:12 pm

Everyone knows that awards shows generally get bad reviews, but I still love watching them even if they are bad. The trick is to look for the good parts. There were two–Ricky/Steve Carell bit (super YEA!) and the Josh Groban bit (hilarious–reminded me of his part in the Jimmy Kimmel/Ben Affleck bit—he should be in more things soon!).

NPH and Kristin Chenowith still had a great moment even only with 5 seconds to talk…..”bitter, party of AMERICA” for not giving them the hosting duties or at least proper time to entertain us!

I like seeing clips of old shows. Remembering the past instead of just being caught up in what’s happening now. That MASH moment was pretty cool. Liked that Kathleen Griffen (Rickles called her Katherine) yelled at everyone to get up for him. She was so sweet during their bit.

I was very happy for Jean Smart (she’s so funny on Samantha Who? whereas Kristin Chenowith is kind of annoying to me–not her, just her character–I’ve liked her so much more in other things that she’s done) and many of the winners who I didn’t pick.

Probst obviously should win the first reality host Emmy since Survivor got the ball rolling (yes, Real World was first, but didn’t have the same impact…anyone with a pulse would agree).

Tina Fey gives great acceptance speeches and I loved that she tied in Julia Luis Dreyfuss into her actress speech (wanted JLD to win).

Glenn Close made a great point with her speech and I realized that all of the nominees were “mature”, not 20-something tabloid fodder. She looked amazing, also.

Jeremy Piven wasn’t a surprise, but I really wanted to see NPH walk with the Emmy. I think the writing may be better for Ari than for Barney.

Really wanted to see Steve Carell win, but they seem to be a year behind on some of the categories, so maybe next year. He had some great episodes and I think this year will be even better with a full schedule of The Office to watch. I was disappointed with last season, not just because of the strike, other than Steve Carell’s performance. My hopes are high this season!

Yea for Mad Men! I wasn’t as surprised that Jon Hamm didn’t win because a lot of his acting is just silent looks and doesn’t “do” as much as the other actors in his category. I kinda thought that Lost might take it, so I was very excited for them.

Why does Two and a Half Men keep getting nominated? It’s a waste of a nomination spot.

Final words: next year more of Jon Stewart, Colbert, Carell, Gervais, Chenowith, NPH and actual funny people. Heck, I’d probably take Probst as host all alone so we can hear him talk over Howie Mandell’s interruptions.

  175. Seeleybaby on September 22nd, 2008 6:29 pm

But the hotness that is David Boreanaz can’t be denied

true…so true….i about threw up in my mouth though, when he was paired with LC

  176. DIANE on September 20th, 2009 8:45 pm

Two and a Half Men should have won hands down. Can’t srand Alec Baldwin, such a Jerk.
