THE ROOKIE: Joel McHale, Michael Trucco, and Mario Lopez to Guest Star

ABC drama THE ROOKIE has booked a trio of guest stars for the second part of its freshman season.

“We have Joel McHale coming to do an episode with us, episode 17,” executive producer Alexi Hawley shares. “He plays a guy who is being watched in a safe house as he prepares to testify at a trial. [Nathan Fillion’s] Nolan and [Eric Winter’s] Tim are the cops who are tasked with watching him.”

“And Michael Trucco is in that episode, too,” Hawley added. “It’s a room of tall, handsome men.”

While McHale’s guest spot is a one-off, Trucco could stick around on the series. “He’s playing an assistant district attorney for us,” Hawley previews. “It was a great get, and hopefully we can do things down the road, as well.”

Both actors have a history with Fillion: Trucco had an arc on a CASTLE (Hawley was a co-producer of the series during that time; he co-ran the final season of the series with Terence Paul Winter) and guest starred on Fillion’s web series CON MAN; Fillion appeared in two episodes of McHale’s COMMUNITY.

Additionally, Mario Lopez—who recently guest starred on BROOKLYN NINE-NINE—will have a cameo as himself in an upcoming episode. (Sarah Shahi will also have a previously-announced upcoming arc on the drama.)
