[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the NCIS season 16 finale, “Daughters.”]

NCIS closed out its 16th season with one heck of a surprise: the return of Ziva David (Cote de Pablo).

For several years, the show had made it appear that Ziva (who last appeared on-screen in season 11) was dead. (Michael Weatherly’s Tony left after her “death,” to take care of their secret daughter.)

But the series strongly implied earlier in season 16 she had merely faked her death. And in the final moments of “Daughters,” Ziva appeared to Gibbs (Mark Harmon) to try and help her old colleague.

“This surprise moment is just the beginning,” showrunners Frank Cardea and Steven D. Binder said in a statement to TVLine. “We are thrilled to share that Cote de Pablo will guest star in the NCIS Season 17 premiere this fall, as Ziva’s warning to Gibbs unfolds.”

Miss the moment? Watch it now…
