“No Matter What the Future Brings” — As Grace prepares to attend her first dance, Wade strongly feels Jill’s absence and leans on his friends to get through it. Also, Wade, Forrest, Delia, Ben and Michelle reflect on growing older and the changes their lives have undergone in the past year, on the first season finale of THE UNICORN, Thursday, March 12 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. THE UNICORN season finale is staging a JUSTIFIED reunion.

On the Thursday, March 12 episode of the CBS comedy, “No Matter What the Future Brings,” Natalie Zea (who played Winona on the FX drama) joins Walton Goggins (Boyd on the drama; he stars as Wade on THE UNICORN).

“What is Raylan Givens’ ex-wife doing on a show with Boyd Crowder?” Goggins jokes with a laugh. “It’s amazing. We’re so lucky to have her. She’s been a friend of mine for such a long time, and I’ve been such a fan of hers for even before that. To go through this experience with her—what a blessing how fate would line up in that way.”

Zea’s role on the series is top secret, “but what I can say is we’re so fortunate to have Natalie based on the personal connection that she and I share,” Goggins says.

In the episode, Wade—who is still mourning the loss of his wife—struggles as he tries to help his daughter Grace (Ruby Jay) prepare for a big dance.

“I had a conversation with our showrunners and our writers around episode 13, 14,” Goggins recalls. “We began talking about what do we want to say and what is this chapter [we’re telling in season 1] with Wade, his family, his friends, and his grief. And how do we [shift] into the next stage of this?”

An important thing? Getting a bit of closure, of sorts, with the loss of his wife. “Without giving too much away, it was time for him to really have a conversation with Jill, his wife that passed away,” Goggins says. “I won’t say how that happened. But I’ve been waiting for it, as an actor, for the better part of a year—since we did the pilot. [He’ll] talk to her about not only where he is, but where everyone is.”

“That is something that I personally went through, and Grady Cooper, who the story is based on, obviously went through it,” he continues. “People that have been in this situation or similar situations have gone through. It’s a real commentary on all of these people and how we’ve all processed everything that we’ve gone through over these 18 episodes. It is a springboard or catalyst into the next phase of this story.”
