Couch Madness: ‘Ghost in the Machine’

March 23, 2020 by

In honor of what should have been NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is launching our own kind of bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)

The seeding is simple: rather than quality, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.

The first round will run from Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27. Round two will kick off on Monday, March 30, with the final face-off starting Monday, April 6.

Next up? “(The) Ghost(s) in the Machine(s).” (There are a lot of these.) Keep reading for the bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the polls. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!)

Couch Madness Ghost in the Machine

DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION (1): “Season 4 begins with Paige, Spinner, Marco, Jimmy, and Hazel entering Grade 11. Spinner buys a car with the money he’s earned at The Dot, and Paige receives a summons to testify at the trial of the guy who raped her.”

FALLING SKIES (8): “On the outskirts of Charleston, just steps away from perceived safety, The Mason Clan and the remaining 2nd Mass suddenly find themselves under brutal attack by a new Espheni war machine – and a new, deadly creation unlike anything previously encountered. Divided like chattel and spread to the winds, The Masons must each forge new relationships and abilities to survive.”

GHOST WHISPERER (5): “Melinda leads the search for a scheming on-line sexual predator after a ghost’s avatar climbs out of her computer into the real world, forcing her to become a ghost hunter in the machine.”

THE 4400 (4): “Malfunctioning ATMs lead agents Tom and Diana to a man who made threats against a large tech firm. The Marked make their presence known.”

KYLE XY (3): “Needing to prove something, Lori proposes a night in the forest, but her choice of location puts everyone at risk especially after Jessi invites herself along.”

FUTURAMA (6): “Fry believes that a human life is more important than a robot life, so Bender decides to kill himself again, only this time he really follows through. But instead of dying he turns into a ghost that haunts Fry.”

BONES (7): “The team talk to the deceased teenaged victim as if he is alive. A psychic visits and says the victim called her to help with the case. The boy’s spirit affects everyone as they look for his killer.”

MEDIUM (2): “Allison’s birthday gift for Joe starts sending her messages, and a highway sniper terrorizes Phoenix.”
