Mariska Hargitay Reacts to Chris Meloni’s New Elliot Stabler Series: ‘Welcome Home’

April 2, 2020 by

While NBC and NBC Universal are still staying officially mum on the new Christopher Meloni-led Elliot Stabler series that’s coming to NBC, his former on-screen partner has officially welcomed him back to the television family.

“Happy Birthday @chris_meloni,” Mariska Hargitay, whose Olivia Benson has been an SVU mainstay—and was Stabler’s former partner—wrote on Instagram. “Congratulations and welcome home Elliot Stabler #It’sBeenAWhile #MissedYou.” (She also posted a similar message on Twitter.)

The news of Meloni’s series broke on March 31, as it was reported he was reviving the Stabler character—in a new, NYPD-set show—in a straight-to-series order. The series will reportedly be showrun by former CHICAGO P.D. boss Matt Olmstead, with Wolf (who is the mastermind behind the LAW & ORDER, ONE CHICAGO, and FBI franchises) an EP.

Meloni left LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT in season 12, after he was unable to come to terms for a new contract. Stabler, at the time, put in his papers (off-screen), and left the NYPD. Hargitay, his former on-screen partner, stayed on with SVU, which recently became the longest-running primetime drama.
