NURSES wraps up its first season on Tuesday, February 23, as Grace (Tiera Skovbye) takes the next step in her fight against Dr. Hamilton’s (Peter Stebbings) abuse.

“In the finale, everything that Grace has gone through, every time she thought she had to be quiet, every time she didn’t speak up—I think you really see the fear of finally breaking down those walls,” Skovbye says. “But also you get to see the reward. It’s an amazing journey that this whole season has gone on, with Grace struggling with the secret and, finally, letting it out. In this finale you get to see all of that kind of come to fruition and things come full circle for her.”

Work-wise, Grace will also have her hands full as she treats a social media influencer, Lily, played by BATWOMAN’s Rachel Skarsten.

“That relationship starts off on a funny note, where Grace thinks that she’s a reporter and then you find out that she’s always in the social spotlight, and she’s struggling with this really personal thing and making this really difficult decision for her health,” Skovbye previews. “It’s so beautiful to watch Grace advocate for her, in such a way that inspires [Lily] to put her health before her career and the stigma that may come with the treatment that she ends up getting.”

“Rachel’s amazing; I had so much fun working with her,” she continues. “I actually stole her entire outfit when we finished filming…Rachel’s hilarious, they have lots of funny banter. And it’s a really, really great relationship. Grace opens up to her, as well, and it’s quite beautiful the way they find similarities in each other and find ways to help each other out.”

As the first season comes to a close on NBC—nearly a year after it first aired in Canada—Skovbye is grateful for the medical drama’s second life.

“It’s been amazing,” she gushes. “Any Canadian show, the biggest goal is to get picked up by a US network so that the rest of the world has the opportunity to see what we’ve made. And so when we found out we were getting picked up by NBC and the rest of the world was going to get to watch the thing that we made, it was incredible; it was such an honor. And I also think that right now, with everything going on in the world, it was the perfect time for a show that shines the spotlight on healthcare workers.”
