Walker (Jared Padalecki) is looking to move forward with his life—kind of—on WALKER.

“In the last episode that we aired, we saw Walker putting his undercover personality to rest,” WALKER creator Anna Fricke says. “That undercover case had been hanging over him; he brought a little bit of that darkness back with him when he started the season. Now that he has literally burned the box of Duke with his children and answered August and Stella’s questions about that time, he’s sort of stepping into reality for the first time. He’s been home but he hasn’t quite been here.”

On the Thursday, March 11 episode, “Bar None,” after a mishap at the bar, Geri (Odette Annable) decides to sell the place. But Walker, who has fond memories of the place—including with his dead wife, Emily (Genevieve Padalecki)—asks to get a chance to fix it up before she takes that step.

“This episode is him taking those first steps to be present and to actually start to deal with something,” Fricke teases.

Complicating matters is Micki’s mother (played by Alex Menese), whose arrival throws a wrench into Walker/Micki’s partnership and Micki’s life.

“That relationship between Micki and Adriana, her mom, is very intense,” Fricke previews. “We’ve heard a little bit about her mom before. And we know that Micki’s mom does not approve of her career as a Ranger. We know, have been a little fraught [between them]—she says in the pilot they haven’t spoken in a few months.”

“So this will be quite a reunion, and we’re going to see more of Micki’s mom throughout the season,” she continues. “And it’s really a very layered, and interesting relationship, I think. Micki will make some discoveries. And it also affects her closeness with Trey, just in terms of them taking those steps in their relationship in a positive way.”

There’s also family drama for Walker’s kids and parents, as they head out on an important camping trip—with Stella (Violet Brinson) bringing along a guest, much to the frustration of Abeline (Molly Hagan).

“The camping trip is complicated—hijinks ensue,” Fricke says with a laugh. “What I love about the show is the multi-generational stories that we tell. We have some really great dynamics between mainly Stella and Abeline, her grandmother, in this episode. Just sort of how they both are dealing with how they want to process thing: It’s the year anniversary of Emily’s death and that’s hanging over a lot of people. How different people want to approach grief and what that means to them. And as a teenager has her own ideas, her grandmother does not quite approve. So there’s there’s a lot of a lot of good, honest, heart-to-hearts.”

WALKER, Thursdays, 8/7c, The CW
