QUANTUM LEAP Post-Mortem: Caitlin Bassett on Addison and Ben’s Big Moment

As Ben (Raymond Lee) struggled to place who the mystery woman from the pieces of his memory on the Monday, October 10 episode of QUANTUM LEAP, he realized  something very important: it was Addison (Caitlin Bassett).

Addison confirmed she was indeed the woman in his life, and the duo tried to touch—but his hand went straight through the hologram. Of course, because the duo can’t exactly get their timing right, Ben also leaped to a new time period.

But with that secret out of the way, “it’s such a release for me, as an actor, and it opens the relationship up to be real in all of its [elements],” Bassett tells Give Me My Remote. “I can mess with him in a more real way. I can be honest about what I’m going through in a more real way.”

However, despite this step forward, “it’s not like he remembers everything,” she continues. “There’s still a lot of questions that need answering. But at the very least, the realness can begin now and I think it’s what the relationship absolutely needed. And I also think that the viewers needed that as well.”

For the performers, nailing the emotional scene ended up being pretty natural. “Honestly, we didn’t even rehearse it,” Bassett says. “Because Ray and I had already worked together for so long…and Ray’s been such a pillar for me; it just didn’t need it. We blocked it. But we’re like, ‘We’re just gonna do it on camera. Let’s just do it.'”

“It was so genuine from both of us,” she continues. “It was such this moment of relief. He was just a mess and I was a mess. And it was just this feeling like, ‘Oh, thank God. We can just be us for a second.’ It was such a moment of a sea of deep relief, but also of just that friendship like, ‘Yeah, it’s me.’ It felt so nice. It feels nice now. I’m so glad we had it. And Ray was the perfect scene partner.”
