FBI, NEW AMSTERDAM, THE ROOKIE: FEDS

“Into the Fire” – When a deadly truck heist arms the killers with enough ammonium nitrate to construct a massive bomb, the team discovers a link to a terrorist group Maggie is working to infiltrate, on the CBS Original series FBI, Tuesday, Nov. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

FBI: For much of the episode, I was a little bummed this episode came so close to Maggie’s return. Of course it’s always good to get a showcase for how great she is at her job, even if we came into the case after she had already been working it for a bit…but we had just seen her struggling and not in sync with OA. It felt like it would have been better served to be an episode or two later.

But then we got a glitch in the partnership, as OA and Maggie didn’t see eye-to-eye and had to (eventually) talk out a bit of their lingering trauma. Of course OA blames himself for her injury. Of course he shouldn’t. They shouldn’t be able to snap back into their old rhythm when OA had to live with her absence for months, knowing how close he came to losing her. (And it equally makes sense Maggie wouldn’t want to hyper-fixate on that.) I’m not naive enough to think this will be the last of their clashes about this, but I’m glad they actually used their words to talk about the toll her near-death took on them.

THE VOICE: Well, that was kind of a mess. I’m always torn on eliminations like this, because I do think when they decrease the contestants by one team mate at a time, it actually penalizes the stronger teams, but we’re now in a place where Camila has a single contestant left and Blake has four. This will make next week awfully interesting.

FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Vo’s look toward Raines at the end was unexpected. The show has backed off from the Scott/Jamie relationship, but Vo/Raines had felt more platonic…but maybe not?

Speaking of Scott, it’s been very weird that he’s been so MIA the past two episodes…he’s been missed.

NEW AMSTERDAM: Wilder’s speech in episode 9 was so important, and a really, really, really good case for why she and Max shouldn’t end up together. It’s lovely they’re crazy about each other, and yes he’s absolutely taking steps for her, but Wilder deserves to be fully seen and be allowed to be her true, full self. Her gorgeous, poignant speech about what she deserved was spot-on…further emphasized by the fact he didn’t understand it all. Obviously Wilder changed her mind in the next episode, but if they do move forward with the relationship, I do hope she doesn’t have to sacrifice any portion of herself to do it.

Frankly, I don’t know what to make of the Helen of it all. At the start of the season, I expected they were going to have them split up for the season before bringing her back to reunite with Max in the finale. Now? I don’t know. No matter what happens, I truly hope we’re able to get insight into Helen and what this breakup/drastic life change has done to her. We’ve seen the toll it’s taken on Max; we care about her, too.

FBI: MOST WANTED: Remy having to kill a vet—though it was so clear what was going to happen and it shouldn’t have gotten to that point—and getting dumped (on the phone) in the span of probably an hour? Yeah, that’s a bad Thanksgiving. But the end bit of half the team having holiday dinner together? Very sweet.

THE ROOKIE: FEDS: I really loved having Lopez and Wesley on the show, but the slight downside of something like this is it was just hard to believe Lopez’ friends/colleagues wouldn’t have been there showing support, too. Maybe they would have been limited, and it might not have been everyone, but this was her husband being held hostage.

And like FBI:MW, the episode also ended with a team-filled Thanksgiving. (Though FEDS also had Simone’s family, too.) Very lovely and earned.
