Couch Madness: ‘New Normal’

Couch Madness New Normal

In honor of the NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is bringing back our TV-centric bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)

The seeding is simple: rather than quality of the hour, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.

The first round will run from Monday, March 13 through Friday, March 17. Round two will kick off on Monday, March 20, with the final face-off starting Monday, March 27.

Last up? “New Normal.” Keep reading for the bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the poll. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!)

JUDGING AMY (1): “In Amy’s courtroom, she adjudicates a case involving two Arab-American Muslim boys, one of whom embraces his religion and culture and the other who is ashamed of his background, after they get into an altercation at their high school. Meanwhile, Crystal goes behind Vincent’s back to have him transferred to a different job, which puts a damper on their relationship. Amy is hurt because Lauren doesn’t want her to chaperone a school dance. Elsewhere, Maxine tries to teach a sexually promiscuous teenager the dangers of having unprotected sex and spring is in the air – and romance seems to be blossoming between Maxine and a newly divorced Ignacio.”

vs.

NEW AMSTERDAM (8): “New Amsterdam is still reeling from the pandemic as a plane crash lands in the East River. When investigators come to interrogate the flight crew, Iggy fights against the clock to help the pilot uncover the truth. Max tracks down scarce medication after one of his own contracts COVID.”

GREEK (2): “New, stricter rules for students are implemented. The new sorority president, Casey, suggests a back to school carnival. Rusty and Casey still deal with breakups.”

vs.

BLUE BLOODS (7): “Frank deals with a police captain who’s losing his grip over his precinct; Danny faces backlash after a tough call he made in the field; Erin weighs the consequences of a dangerous criminal’s release under new bail laws.”

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (3): “It’s parent-teacher conferences and one little liar’s father sits face to face with the love of her life. Better believe that “A” has something to say about it.”
vs.

SEAL TEAM (6): “Bravo Team struggles to adjust to a new team dynamic after several members make life-altering career decisions.”

CHICAGO P.D. (4): “With Voight suspended, Antonio takes charge of Intelligence to deal with overdoses of bad heroin, but Ruzek undermines his authority.”
vs.

MADAM SECRETARY (5): “When a super typhoon threatens a small Pacific island, and Elizabeth and her team must find a way to relocate the entire population before landfall.”
