After getting trapped in a vehicle testing space together on the Tuesday, March 14 episode of AMERICAN AUTO, Jack (Tye White) and Sadie (Harriet Dyer) hooked up. (Again.)

But despite their brief slip-up, this doesn’t mean the duo is actually going to take a meaningful step forward, romantically, any time soon. “Jack is very fond of Sadie [and] she’s very fond of him,” White acknowledges to Give Me My Remote in the video below. “I think her career [remains of] the utmost importance to her so that…workplace romance may or may not be in their future, but there’s definitely some physical attraction that may or may kind of revisit itself…If you leave them alone-alone, things usually kind of happen.”

For AMERICAN AUTO creator Justin Spitzer—whose will they/won’t they resume notably includes SUPERSTORE’s Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrera)—the NBC comedy is playing a different kind of relationship build-up than he’s done in the past. (In addition to SUPERSTORE, which he created, Spitzer was a writer/producer on THE OFFICE, which had its own share of workplace romances.)

“It’s slow…but this is not a romantic comedy,” Spitzer notes. “And I would say that with Jonah and Amy, too, but…the SUPERSTORE pilot was really about them and the stars moment [where he surprises her with a moment of beauty]. I think this show, at least currently, has a little less of that romantic aspect; this was never called THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD, unlike that show.”

“But we try to do as good a job as we can with continuing to make that a piece of the fabric of our show,” he continues. “I think Jack-Sadie shippers, if there are any—I hope there are a few—won’t be disappointed with where the season goes.”

AMERICAN AUTO, Tuesdays, 8:30/7:30c, NBC
