Apple TV+ is getting into the music competition series genre, with the new series MY KIND OF COUNTRY. (Debuting on Friday, March 24 with three episodes.)

According to the streamer, the series is “a fresh take on a competition series, breaking down barriers in country music by providing an extraordinary opportunity to diverse and innovative artists from around the world.”

Rather than auditions, the show kicks off with scouts Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton, and Orville Peck already set with a fully formed team (that they picked) of up-and-coming musicians they’re hoping to help.

But it ended up being a mutually beneficial relationship. “The talent was just so exceptional that it made you kind of look into yourself and be like, ‘Okay, I need to work and be better,'” Guyton told reporters during a press conference for the series. “Like, I left feeling so inspired because these artists were so good at what they do.”

“I was really inspired by the courage and the bravery of these artists who fly in some cases from, you know, the other side of the planet to Nashville and get thrown into this entire dynamic and sing in front of strangers, be away from home, be in a hotel room on their own,” Peck added. “It’s crazy. And the courage, I think, it takes to come and at the same time have us asking them to be more vulnerable, give us more, show us who you are. It was inspiring to see how passionate these artists were to do this. And I think it often reminded us of where we came from and our early passions and what we had to go through as artists in our right as well. And so it was really inspiring.”

“Watching them, it really solidified the fact of being you is enough,” Allen said. “Like, you are the only person that can tell your story…And seeing all these artists, from different parts of the country and different parts of the world…you see how everybody’s different. You know what I mean? Like…if I tried to do what [contestant] Dhruv [Visvanath] does, I never could…So it really pushes the fact that what makes artists special, what makes our favorite artists of all time special, is they found a way to really be them.”
