Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Okay, with all due respect to the first few Battles, the night started pretty slow. It felt like it only really kicked into gear with Team Niall’s “Skinny Love” performance, and I’m really glad Gina and Kala are both staying with the competition.

But, yes, the performance of the night was clearly Team Chance’s “Someone Like You.” Sorelle and Manasseh Samone were an incredible quartet, and I’m truly glad Chance used his Playoff Pass on Manasseh. (Absolutely bonkers she had no turns her first go-round and was a one-chair turn this season.)

However, I’m a little confused by the Pass rule structure. I figured the winner of the Battle was eligible for a Playoff Pass. This is good in the sense it might help artists get a leg up, but I’m confused if this is the way it HAS to be used or if this is just the way Chance chose to strategically utilize it.

QUANTUM LEAP: On a light note, I appreciate how there were several “Wait, how does that work?!” type questions and scenarios in this episode, but because of the actual emergency they were in, they were able to wiggle out of explaining themselves by Ben acknowledging, “Nah, no time for it.”

But this was a really great juxtaposition of the leap (onto a potentially doomed plane) paired with the team’s central issue (Ziggy was compromised). It felt even more claustrophobic than the recent ship-centric episode, with the added tension of who the heck they could trust onboard. (The spoiled kid! Who would have thought?)

It was also great seeing them all contend with what not trusting Ziggy meant. Not only were they at a disadvantage with the mission, but it felt like a betrayal of trust. Also loved getting to see Ben remember Ian, and have the duo get a beat of catching up, properly.

And that ending? The future?! Let’s see what kind of mess we wind up in/how absolutely terrible things get. (Also, knowing that the “snow in LA” bit was filmed waaaay before LA had its real-life apocalyptic weather makes me both fear these writers and want them to slip me some lottery numbers.)
