Couch Madness: ‘Payback’ (Group 1)

Couch Madness Payback

In honor of the NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is bringing back our TV-centric bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes to fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)

The seeding is simple: rather than quality of the hour, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.

The first round will run from Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15. Round two will kick off on Monday, March 18, with the final face-off starting on Monday, March 25.

First up? “Payback.” And with this title we’re doing something different: There are enough shows for two separate brackets. So keep reading for the first bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the poll. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!)

MIAMI VICE (1): “Crockett goes undercover to take down Mario Fuente (Frank Zappa), a dealer of ‘weasel dust.'”

vs.

WHITE COLLAR (8): “When Peter is kidnapped by an old nemesis, Neal must race against time and defy the FBI to save him.”

WALKER, TEXAS RANGER (2): “When a van equipped for a handicapped kid is stolen, Walker and Trivette begin investigating a group of carjackers, and Walker discovers there is a $1,000,000 bounty on his head.”

vs.

CSI: MIAMI (7): “New technology on DNA testing reveals that a man convicted of a rape six years back is innocent and he is promptly released. Now a free man, he is eager on pressing charges against the department and the crime lab for his false conviction. Meanwhile, Horatio and his team reopen the case in hope to catch the real rapist. In the morgue, Alexx examines the body of a young woman who died from infections caused by a piece of cloth left inside her after an operation. She is intent on finding the surgeon responsible for this untimely death.”

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (3): “Stabler and Benson investigate the murder and castration of a New York cab driver. They discover that the victim had assumed the identity of another man because he himself was wanted by police.”

vs.

LAW & ORDER (6): “A real estate broker is accused of being an unlikely hit man for a former mob boss recently released from prison and trying to get his old crew back.”

THE PRACTICE (4): “With the discovery of William Hinks’ body, Bobby is arrested shortly after for his murder. Lindsay is terrified of losing him and raising their child alone, while the DA’s office assigns an extremely aggressive lawyer, willing to pull out all the stops in order to get rid of Bobby once and for all.”

vs.

CROSSING JORDAN (5): “Dr. Macy and Elaine investigate a massacre at a night club involving a local socialite. After she later dies in custody, Jordan tries to help prove Woody isn’t responsible.”
